chain restaurants

Sit down before you hurt yourself.

Yes, there are fast food and box chains in both cities. They're in every city and town in America.

There are so many great mom and pop shops/hometown restaurants here too! Trust me!

By the way, I only moved here (Old Mandeville) 13 months ago from Denham/BR, which isn't the best way to judge what I'm used to eating, however, the biggest perk of my job is that I get to travel all over the state and eat whatever I want for free (within reason). I'd put Mandeville and Covington's offerings up against any in the state. You are missing out, baw!

I just moved away about 18 months ago, but lived in the area for 10 years. It is a great place to raise a family and suits 30-somethings and up better than younger adults.

It use to not be that way. In the 90s when I lived there ( Mandeville) it was local restaurants and something to do every weekend. I went for the first time in 20 years and it’s completely different.

When I think about Covington, for some reason I just think of it as a place where the most successful person from a trash family moved to so they are not around their trashy family.

So, which member of your family moved there?

Doesn’t sound like it...don’t you own a farm in STP and live in Baton Rouge? Sounds like you’re jealous.

Agree, that was a bizarre comment.

There's about 1/2 dozen people that post here, with the comments they make on a consistent basis, you wonder what planet they live on.

Great schools, low crime, close to Nola.

You know it’s a suburb right? The allure revolves around raising a family.

And the food scene is much better than you are suggesting.

Because it is driving distance to New Orleans and is the only parish that has public schools where your kid most likely wont join a gang or get addicted to opoids.

I guess if chain restaurants, strip malls, and a big Chimes

There are a few chain restaurant in CovLA -- the Burger King near the foot of LA 25, the Sonic on Tyler, the Subway on Boston Street and, technically, the Popeye's on Hwy 190, PJs and McDonald's (foot of Hwy 25, again). We'll call Chimes and the Blind Tiger chains as well for the sake of discussion.

Non chains include Gallagher's, Del Porto, Ox Lot 9, Lola, Toad Hollow, English Tea Room, Buster's Seafood, New Orleans Seafood and Spirits, Meribo, Abita Roasting, Mattina Bella, Tap Room, Columbia St Rock N Blues, Bear's Po Boys, Campbell's coffee, Vasquez, Susans on Columbia, Coffee Rani, the new two new taco restaurants, the new Brazillian restaurant, Los Sombrerasand Pepe's.

I can't name a strip a mall in Covington.

I fear that you think the interstate is "in Covington." That is not correct.

If I can't get there in my golf cart: 1) it's not in Covington. 2) ...not sure I want to go.

TMI: I have a place in ATL on Piedmont Park

... but you trolled me well.

I love Covington, but then again I grew up here. It has some issues, but all in all, it is a solid place to raise a family. Additionally, Covington is great for new retirees. As for the food scene, Gallagher's is my personal favorite for dinner (Bear's for lunch). I suggest you scope it out and form your own opinion.

You smoke too much crack.

Also, the suburbs in this subject have some damn good restaurants. There are several, but the old Mandeville and downtown Covington ones stand out. Much better than many burbs in the south and def. better than the rest of the state stupid arse suburbs.

If there’s one thing I hate it’s all those darn chain restaurants littering old Mandeville and downtown Covington. You can’t even walk toward the lake on Girod St. without tripping over a half-dozen of them.

If your access was denied to the Northshore... Just move on, Belle Chase is still there for you with a nice blend of Culture, Flowing Valleys and Golf courses to fit your needs...

Which Chain restaurant is on Girod? I can think of a half dozen locally owned but am struggling to name any chain on Girod. Maybe my sarcasm detector isn’t working.
