Don’t compare those two to smyrna at all... you’ll catch those hands from me on Atlanta road right now.

People want to live in low crime areas with good schools. If those areas happen to be 90% white than so be it.

Mandeville/Covington is boring af. Don't understand how anyone would willingly choose to live there especially with that commute.

None of this is happened.

Wanting to live in a safer area now makes you racist?

You got thugs in every race. Not wanting to live around thugs isn’t a bad thing.

I moved back to the south shore (from Mandeville), in 2010. It is a nice a place to raise a family, but it was becoming overrun with Chalmations and Metry people who thought they had somehow made it.

It was like black people moving to New Orleans East in the 1990's (before the real section 8 decay set in). They tended to think living in N.O.East was proof that they had arrived.

Yep. My 5 minute commute stinks. Sometimes it takes 6 minutes.

You're wrong on so many levels. St. Tammany Parish continuously ranks as one of the... if not the, wealthiest parish in the state.

And the Chalmations moved to Slidell... so, again, you're full of shite!

I was just thinking the same thing. Lets bring a 3rd party into this.

"Hey, Asian, Hispanic and Arab guy! Where would you rather live?"

Sounds like we have a winner.

PROS:

Great schools.
Low crime.
Retail and service workers are a joy to deal with compared to big cities.
Government is highly competent and again, easy to deal with and friendly.
Options for cheap housing.
More house for your money.
Acreage available.
Places to hunt.
Places to fish.
Gulf of Mexico right next door.
Fresh, brackish and salt water fishing all within the Parish.
Great natural beauty.
Beautiful rivers and bayous.
Mild winters.
Several intact historic old town areas.
Streets and infrastructure are in excellent condition.
One of the most interesting, fun and unique cultural meccas on the continent(NOLA) an hour away.

CONS:

I dont know but I wish it would stop. Way too many people here now.

Also there are tons of good non chain places to eat. But of course chains will be in a more populated area and right off the interstate.

When I think about Covington, for some reason I just think of it as a place where the most successful person from a trash family moved to so they are not around their trashy family.

Covington used to be a nice, country, town until the Yats started to abandon New Orleans in the 1970's.

It's been covered already but the Covington/Mandeville area is the best place in the state to live. The crime is low, great schools, plenty to do, greats bars & restaurants, etc

Meanwhile people in NOLA are leaving their cars unlocked because they would rather thieves just open the door instead of smash a window

After Katrina a LOT of people from Chalmette moved to Mandeville. I'm not sure why you're so sensitive about this fact.

Check up on your history. Covington was a summer resort town for the well to do NOLA families back in the late 19th and early 20th century. All of those mansions off of Military road? Nola families. Street names? Nola families. It's always been a retreat for southshore folks.

Really? That's funny because last time I was in the Dirty Dell I certainly didn't see an N'Tini's, Randazzo's, DiCristina's, or Archbishop Hannan.
