Moving all tractor trailers to the right lane has been proven to be a mistake. It creates a wall that makes it near impossible for vehicles to exit. All traffic modelings show this. People also need to realize that the Interstates were built for the tractor trailers and the military - passenger vehicles were an afterthought. If anything they should ban passenger vehicles. State troopers will tell you that the vast majority of accidents are cause by passenger vehicles when a semi is involved. What lane they drive in makes little difference. Drivers are the problem of all vehicle types. Who knows what caused this wreck but trucks in the right lane is a feel good ignorant remark.

It feels good when a truck passing another at 71 mph finally gets back in the right lane.

frick you Snowman. The ABB is much better when the "big rigs" stay in the right lane and obey the speed limit.

I don't give a frick what the original intent of the interstate was. It needs to be managed with consideration to the current users. Truckers are only half of that population (if that much). And while passenger vehicles certainly deserve their share of blame, truckers are equally as guilty as them.

the Troopers there take it very serious

Troopers in Louisiana only take Vegas trips seriously. Very rare to see them actually doing speed enforcement.

That's the real danger. Trucks with speed limiters "passing" another limited truck for 10+ miles with a line of 80 cars stuck behind them.

Passing should be accomplished in under 10 seconds. And when you aren't actively passing you need to get back in the right lane. That alone would solve 95% of I12 problems.

It's amazing to me that after years and years, that's still a fricking 2 lane highway

Yep and same with I10. we are talking about a major coast to coast interstate highway that is 2 lanes. Dumb as the frick.

Trucks must travel the right lane at a speed slower than "car" traffic and only use the left if they are passing
Make the trucks stay in the right lane at ALL times...no trucks passing. Can't tell you how often I see trucks going 65 in the right lane, then one truck speeds up to 66 and cuts over to the left to pass a truck going 65 while almost taking off the front end of cars who were coming up behind him in the left lane at 75. That's the kind of stuff that keeps causing accidents on the interstate. Make it like the basin bridge. Trucks must stay in right lane at all times

Do they ever plan on adding lanes? What's stopping them? Taxes?

best route eastbound and out of the hellscape of the LP i can find right now is exit N at livingston, take 190 E to holden, N/E on 442 to 55, then south and exit at wardline to go thru hammond and beyond

anyone got a better idea?

Aggressive driving and speeding are much worse now, leading to far more wrecks than 10 or even 5 years ago.

You can also blame all the safety and creature comforts turning cars into game consoles from a comfy recliner.

It's a straight road with plenty of line-of-sight.

Put the phone down and don't hog the passing lane.

I commute from Covington to BR 5 days a week. The trucks are 80% of the problem. They're left lane hoggers. They drive for a living... so they're either stupid, don't care, or do it on purpose (which I think is the case). It's your job yet you don't know the left lane is for PASSING ONLY? Give me a break!

God bless whoever was involved in this one. Sending prayers.

They are in the middle of widening it as we speak. That's what the construction at Satsuma is doing. They're slowly working their way east

I-12 East is now closed at LA 447 (Walker) due to an accident at LA 43 (Albany). Motorists are advised to use LA 447 North to US 190 East as an alternate route.

you could exit S at Livingston and take that to Hwy 22 East which will take you into Springfield and eventually Ponchatoula
