My wife is about to leave Lafayette for mandeville, hopefully this clears up by the time she gets there...

Don’t see any way possible for that to happen if history is any indication.

Seriously, she should take I10 in Baton Rouge to Metairie and cross the causeway into Mandeville. On a regular it adds 45-60 minutes, today will save her hours.

What we need is more unmarked police cars pulling over the stupid azz drivers.

Is it back open? If not, is there an ETA?

was outside when the accident happened, I live less than 1/4 from the accident scene and heard AND felt several explosions in a row. I saw lots of gray billowing smoke, then started hearing emergency responders sirens and saw a chopper fly over the scene.
Me too. I live just south of I12 and had just gotten home from the Dr in Hammond. I heard it as I was getting out of my truck and walking around my yard. I could see the black smoke through the trees. Scary to think that this happened a few minutes after I got off interstate at the same spot

Truckers will flick the rear of their semi across the line and into the passing lane to intimidate drivers thinking of passing.

It reopened in the last 10 minutes.

Had to get off at a very sudden exit right after an on ramp here in Baton Rouge, (Louis street, after Daleymple) and I had a semi get behind me with what seemed like maybe a foot of clearance and then swing back left and honk at me as I got off. I to this day have no idea the point of what he was doing, maybe attempting to get off himself but the maneuver he did was so incredibly dangerous. If I’d have simply tapped my break I would’ve been straight up mangled in my tiny Optima.

I-12 East is open, but I think I-12 west is still closed. Per DOTD Twitter:

quote:

I-12 West remains closed at I-55 due to a vehicle fire at LA 43 (Albany). Motorists are advised to use I-55 North to US 190 West as an alternate route. Congestion on I-12 West is approximately 2 miles in length and on I-55 North remains at approximately 3 miles in length. 4:17 PM · Sep 13, 2019·BR_ATMS

Did you cut him off?

And there was no need for you to get on the interstate to go from those two streets.
Louise at is not even a quarter mile past the interstate on ramp on dalrymple.

It is damn near a straight line. I don't understand what the problem is

These trucks make it coast to coast on I-10, but have trouble in Livingston Parish. I wonder...

Do you not see the fiery inferno in that picture across all lanes of the interstate?

Try Sunday or Monday, and that's if there's no damage to the roadway.

ETA: MAYBE Saturday night, but they've got to put the fire out, finish an investigation for two fatalities, clear the accident scene, and get some structural/civil engineers out to inspect the roadway to make sure it's safe to reopen. Does no good to rush to open the thing if the surface fails three hours later and causes another pileup.

Yeah, there's nothing about that that screams "open at any time in the near future" to me.
