Bruh I’m sick of seeing this argument.
Nobody, absolutely nobody, expects chick fil a quality service from Popeyes.
Each time I’ve gone to get the sandwich, I know damn good and well 1. It’ll be at least 15-20 mins 2. It may come with a side of attitude 3. It may not be correct, so check. And despite all this, I’ve gone and gotten in 4 times.

It's part of the ambience. It's like the Soup Nazi. Service is near abusive, and it's part of the experience.

Yeah if it is a marketing ploy it's very risky
You're the talk of morning shows and the like right now and there is absolutely no guarantee you'll pick that up again when you're "restocked." So you disengage a brand new customer base and a captive media in order to build momentum you already had.
The demand was already peaking due to local shortage so the elusive factor was there already.
I could see this being a thing where they were worried about local shortages and the unpredictability of that hurting their brand and reinforcing the idea that Popeyes is a shitty run company (as people get frustrated) so a clean cut "you've eaten us totally out of sandwiches OMG" could be shrewd from that angle until they can get their legs under them.

When you don't live in a shithole, even Popeyes service is nice.
