Rich state with a poor populace

If you can handle the truth? We have corruption and education levels similar to that of Mexico.
You can kind of get away with one of those and do well.
But not both.

It’s not because we/corporations don’t pay enough in taxes.
It’s because we have so many government leaches that ruin literally everything

It probably comes down to climate. If you haven’t noticed it gets hot as hell here in the summer. Hard to compete with other areas of the world
It’s 91F at 3:45am in Doha right now and 92F in New Orleans at 7:45pm.

Yeah but that humidity is the real killer

Yeah - they bitch about the property tax exemption (which is the only reason Exxon stays, by the way) and ignore the fact that TEXAS DOESN'T HAVE AN INCOME TAX, MOTHERfrickER.
Louisiana's individual and corporate taxes are NOT too low. These are NOT the reasons we stay poor.
We stay poor because we cannot/will not educate our children and we cannot/will not end the sort of corruption (which these tax exemptions only partially offset) required to do business here.
If we had no income tax and focused on building our property valuation/tax base as Texas has, we could be similarly wealthy.

Do we? Houston and even Mobile get more traffic than New Orleans.

Together Louisiana is a leftist organization. Our government collects plenty of taxes and they just want to give them more.
We spend around 24th in the country per pupil on education and have 48th rated schools. How would more money improve this? Seems like we are already getting screwed with what we already pay them.

Not to mention seafood industry, tourism, professional sports etc

We are stagnant- and we prefer a party to prosperity.
Yes and no.
The reason Louisiana people can watch the world burn and laugh has to do with our history. Every single major group here was persecuted. Our country was stolen, twice. Sold a few times.
The majority of the state consisted of subsistence farmers for a long time. When the German farmers lost their wealth... We took them in.
We have always had more of a live and let live mentality than the average American.
For all of our failings, it's why the protests didn't work. It's why floods bring out the best rather than worst.
No matter how much we change, there's a playfulness here that won't depart.
I'm 100% okay with that.
I firmly believe it's because the french dealt with the indians to survive. They deakt with tje Spanish for the same reason. You brought in the Irish. The Italians. The germans. The free people of color. The commonality between them is what stuck.
People with strong familial units, clan like behavior, big cooking, big drinking, hard laughing.
A lot of Louisiana guys push for moving to Texas and complain about our State. But i know A LOT of people who have come to louisiana. Yankees and southerners alike. They fall in love with the flavor. The communities. The heat.
I know of one family from Jersey whose daughter came down from undergrad, her father visited twice, and he moved the whole family down.
Yes, he did learn to make a jambalaya. Yes, he's white collar.
There are things to appreciate if you only keep your eyes open. And if you have a nack for it, there is easy money to be made.
Edit... Nack. Not back

Because of this corrupt motherfricker and his family.

Proof? The Mississippi River port system is more than just NO it includes Port of BR, South Louisiana, Plaquemines etc. The lower Mississippi River leads the country by tonnage and it’s not even close.

Louisiana has been corrupt since Bienville stepped off the boat
Yet, just before Edwin Edwards first took office, it was one of the more successful prosperous states in the Old South. It has been pretty much all downhill from there.

Slow down hawking. Houston yes, Mobile... The OP should've clarified, he is not talking about the "port" he is referring to the access points on the Ms river in LA. Big big difference
