I upvoted you baw... why would people hate on us for getting good national press? Last I checked, women were playing pro ball too and I’m sure at some point, some of them have become really good at some of the jobs men have done in the past.

Thanks for the research, maybe it's not a story they'll run with in the offseason after all. And for the record, I am not the single upvote on my post. I take up and downvotes for the feedback they are, and if this wasn't one of my best posts maybe it will teach me not to assume next time.

I don't think it was a bad post at all. It made me think, because I hadn't heard of other women with that title in other organizations either. After researching, it appears that I haven't heard about it, because it's not a position that typically makes headlines when a hire is made.

Anyway, I trust Griffin, so I'm not really going to question his hires. Curious as to who else he's going to add to the FO, assistant GM, etc...

The first thing I thought when I saw her title was "isn't that why they brought Langdon here?"

That was my first thought as well.

Other than her name and her WNBA career, I know nothing about her. I had no idea she was even qualified to be in a front office.

it takes a certain kind of front office talent and personality that would be able to blend in well inbetween Griffin and Langdon. With little actual knowledge, i like the potential of what they are building in the building.

I love this hire. I've been following Swin for quite some time now and she has an excellent basketball mind, well spoken and well respected throughout the league.

The one thing you have to credit Griffin on is the fact that he’s not afraid of hiring up and coming personnel with fresh ideas and a forward thinking trait. Griffin could have easily hired a bunch of retreads to fill his staff but he is definitely filling his team with smart people who look at things differently compared to highly experienced people who are virtually set in their ways. I’m loving this diverse staff and you all should be excited.

Best guess is that Langdon and Cash are to complement each other because both likely have different strengths and weaknesses, but enough weaknesses that neither can perform the entire job satisfactorily at this time.

There's a difference between finding and evaluating talent (presumably Langdon, from his role with Nets) and putting the pieces in place to develop that talent (presumably Cash).

Every league is littered with franchises that do one job well but not the other. Teams like the Lakers and Wolves have identified talent but havent developed well, and other teams like the Nets and Pacers have seemingly done more with less. Every team wants to squeeze more out of the best talent, but often egos/roles get in the way (see: Lakers). Find people that are talented but humble to know their weaknesses and you can create a sustainable system/culture (see: Spurs).

SO WITH ALL DUE RESPECT TO SWIN CASH' HUSBAND....

If Zion and Swin were to procreate (strictly for basketball reasons), would that asset be strictly Pelican's possession automatically?

I think this might just be a Title IX hire.

“We are beyond thrilled to welcome Swin Cash and her family to the New Orleans Pelicans,” said Griffin. “Her legendary experience as a player, champion and winner at every level, on and off the floor, represents everything we want this organization to be about. In addition to her background as an executive with the New York Liberty, Swin has a strong reputation as a thought leader in the area of player and human development and her work as a global NBA/WNBA ambassador speaks to her incredible relationships throughout the League family.”

“I am so excited to join the New Orleans Pelicans as Vice President of Basketball Operations/Team Development,” said Cash. “I want to extend my sincere gratitude to Mrs. Benson, David Griffin and the Pelicans organization for the opportunity to serve in a leadership role in the front office. I will use my experience as a professional athlete in the WNBA, Vice President of the WNBPA, businesswoman and philanthropist, along with the knowledge I’ve gained as a front office executive, to cultivate the organzation’s basketball culture on the court and in the community.”
