Have no idea about her, but I trust griffin so I’ll assume it’s a good hire

re: Pels hire Swin Cash to Senior FO role
anyone know what her background is?

The team will name Cash vice president of basketball operations and team development, sources say. She will scout, help guide player development on and off the floor, and assume other roles within the organization.

That's the only piece of the article linked above that gives us an idea of her role her. VP of basketball operations is pretty high up indeed.

Keep reading bro.

Cash played 15 seasons in the WNBA, and made four All-Star teams. She was a member of the 2000 and 2002 national championship teams at UConn, and won three WNBA titles. In 2017, the New York Liberty named Cash director of franchise development. She has also appeared across several television platforms in an analyst role, including on NBA TV last season with Griffin.

The irony would be if she ever gets fired for "Swindling Cash"...

Really really interesting hire. That is a REALLY high up and essential position, so I hope people don’t treat it as simply a PR hire, as Griffin is really familiar with her.

Interesting.

In a typical front office hierarchy this is an essential position. But with how the Pels are set up, starting with Langdon, your duties are one notch below your title.

I do like the hire and how the front office is being set up.

I hope the poli board doesn’t dig too deep into this one and invade this board with their tomfoolery I’ll say no more than that because I really do not want this to be about that.

I see nothing but positive on this one. She seems extremely qualified from all I read about her.

True. Her position is one that Langdon will have a large role in anyway. But the amount of positive press this is getting already is a positive in itself.

Watching her on NBAtv and some stuff on MSG covering the Knicks, you can tell she's really intelligent and knows her basketball. Griffin got to work with her up close and decided she's worth bringing in, so I like the hire.

I've also noticed Candace Parker's work on NBAtv and TNT. She's very good on television. Being good on tv doesn't mean you're right for a FO job, but it wouldn't surprise me if an NBA team hired when she's finished playing.

Team with a woman owner hires a woman to a high profile role, that's an easy story to sell these days. This could potentially launch Gayle into becoming a pretty high profile NBA owner like Cuban. I don’t know how much that is worth because even Dallas has only been middle tier as a FA market. However, having the league and news talking about your team positively and saying it’s well run can only help as they build around Zion.

Obviously I saw that. Surely that's not the extent of her background is my point.

That's the one line in the entire article linking her to any kind of previous FO position. VPOBO just seems like a mighty high position for someone with so little experience in any kind of FO capacity, so I assumed there was more that was not mentioned in the article. I trust Griffin and the hires he's made so far have been great, so if that is the extent of her experience, I'll guess we'll just have to trust him on this one.

re: Pels hire Swin Cash to Senior FO role
The first thing I thought when I saw her title was "isn't that why they brought Langdon here?". I would imagine Griffin and Langdon both have a pretty strong idea of how they want to handle player development and probably see Swin as someone smart enough and hard working enough to implement their vision. With their level of experience in this area they wouldn't need an Aaron Nelson type to build a top tier department, just someone they trusted to get things done.

Possibly, but I don't think that big of a deal is going to be made about it. I was curious, so I just decided to google to see if other women hold titles similar to this position for other teams, I was genuinely curious if this was the first time a woman was hired for this position in the NBA. In a short google search, I've found that the Sixers hired Annelie Schmittel to be the team’s vice president of player development back in January, Teresa Resch was named Raptors VP of Basketball Operations and Player Development back in 2015, and the Nuggets have Lisa Johnson as Vice President of Basketball Administration (she's been with the team for 38 years). I'm sure there are probably more women with similar titles within different organizations, but I was just curious if this was some sort of "ahead of the curve" hire in putting a woman in this position, but it doesn't appear that way.

His big talking point is “hire smart people, figure out job descriptions later”.

Not sure what exactly they will have her do but having more smart people on board can’t really hurt.

Thanks for the research, maybe it's not a story they'll run with in the offseason after all. And for the record, I am not the single upvote on my post. I take up and downvotes for the feedback they are, and if this wasn't one of my best posts maybe it will teach me not to assume next time.
