re: The Compromise

We have discussed this many times in the thread. But again, there are levels to "all in"
Jrue Holiday isn't "all in" for the next 10 years, regardless of what happens. He is all in right now. And AD could do that too. He can sincerely say that he wants to stay, but he needs to see more than talk. He needs more than scouting reports to know this 19 yr old kid will be great and fit with his game. And he will give you a full year with no distractions and be all in for that year while you show him those things.
Then, at the end of the year, you talk and see if he wants to commit to being all in for 5 more years or if he wants to move on.
Now, people will say AD is incapable of that or that he will lie or he will tear his ACL, whatever. Thats fine. But I am laying out what "all in" could look like in this compromise.

No the free agent class is insane this year. You move on from him, no way do you wait and see.
Get some more young talent on smaller contracts when you trade him and pick up one of the big free agents.

So there isn't really a case to say that if he opts in or he says he wants to be traded that the Pels will get less for him in a years time.
That's the conundrum as we have no idea how future picks get effected.

I like this idea,but I think it will all be moot in a few weeks when AD makes it clear he still would like a new start with a new team.

What are your current odds of what happens? Opt in, trade, extension
Posted on 5/15/19 at 9:54 pm to Crewz
Seems like the definition of 'all in' is changing on a daily basis. I thought it was meant to entail a long-term extension.
But my posed question still stands: What will Davis' requirements be such that he finally buys into this team on a long-term deal? That it is not easily ascertainable is problematic in-and-of-itself. And, more likely, what it probably requires is something this franchise simply won't be able to obtain in the extra year it continues to humor AD.
I sincerely doubt it will be something as ephemeral as 'I want to see the team make good progress' versus (what will be in his mind but left unsaid), 'we need to make the Conference Finals.' I'm not really interested in half measures and I'm content to receive one of the packages of assets that's being bandied about by the likely suspects. Assets that might get worse over time depending on the success of the likely trade partners. But that's just one man's opinion.

Opt in = 15%
Trade = 84%
Extension = 1%
Trade = 84%
Extension = 1%

Again, no offense, I know you maybe don't have time to read the whole thread, but I answered this. Will answer one last time
The Compromise is slightly more likely than the trade and that is far more likely than the 5 year extension being signed. I would put it at
45 percent - Compromise
40 percent - Trade
12 percent - Sign extension
3 percent - None of the above. Go into season and try to woo him

How desperate will the Celtics be for AD?
Could we land Tatum, Brown, Smart, and picks this offseason for AD?
Is that a complete now for playoffs/build for future roster?
Smart
Holiday
Brown
Tatum
Zion
Randle and Payton off the bench.
I just don’t know if I trust we will see enough from just Jrue, AD, and Zion in the next year as I think we still have holes.
I know the guys we get in the trade would not necessarily be superstars, but Tatum and Brown definitely could be young cheap well above average players that could compliment Holiday and Zion.

Guys elite players in this league require alot of patience and sometimes you will have to eat some stuff. Kobe wanted out of LA, Lebron left Cleveland twice, Shaq dropped the Magic, KD left Twolfs. This stuff is nothing new dont become so emotionally hurt by these guys. Pelicans should give their full effort to make it work and if doesnt move on. But this whole just leave Davis we dont want you anyway routine is kinda blown out of proportion.

If I am not being overly optimistic, I see us winning a playoff series next season with maybe a second round exit. That is Zion having a strong rookie season and Jrue, AD, and Zion being healthy all year.
I am unsure what kind of real chemistry or continuity the team really has from this past season.
Would a competitive second round exit really keep AD here? Can he be the leader of the team after last season? Can the leader role shift to Jrue if AD has the awards?
These are items that push me to want to cash out now and build around Jrue and Zion.

One has to surmise that your source on this is the Pels. Not Davis's camp.
Therefore this is what the Pels believe based on convos. Not necessarily what the actual reality is.
We will see. But I just don't believe the odds are that high.

Wilbon’s positivity today on PTI based on his “real reporting” (which was a shot at many of his colleagues) was that he believed there is a high change Zion and AD play together in NOLA. He said he spoke with Zion and his father last night

It was probably at least 90/5/5 pre Zion but it has to at least make some difference i suspect(Like say 75/20/5)
I just dont see it making a deciding difference but it at least gives Griff another selling pount.

I think the Pels definitely want it out there that’s it’s a strong possibility for a variety of reasons. It’s very beneficial.

I think it also gives AD another thing he can point to as to why he changed his mind for those skeptical that he won't want to deal with having to publically walk back everything from earlier this year.
I feel like the narrative has almost flipped among the national media and the casual fans in that they basically expect him to want to stay at this point. I still don't think he does, but it's super easy for him to now say 4 months ago we did have Zion or Griff and things have changed now.

For the compromise or the extension?

You guys have to stop thinking about things like "How far the Pelicans go" is the end all/be all that would win him over or not. That was not his biggest problem. And results are sometimes luck based
Griffin wants to prove to him that the organization as a whole is different. The way they do everything, from their facilities to their strength and conditioning and rehab processes to their transparacy with players. Management and coaching staffs being on the same page.
Think about your job, wherever you work. Yes, it is a very awesome feeling when your business succeeds. Better to be the #1 bank in the city than #3. But thats not the lone thing that makes you want to stay at your job or leave it. Its the environment in the building. Its upper management giving you the resources you need to do your job well. Its being able to walk into your bosses office and have an open conversation. Its freedom to express your opinion and have them taken seriously. I can go on and on.
Point is -- It would not be as simple as: Make WCF or better and he stays. Second round exit or earlier and he goes. Doesn't work like that.
