I’m watching Dumb and Dumber on Netflix, and I keep thinking about how bad this movie could have been if not for great performances by Daniels and Carrey.

Like this shouldn’t be a good movie, but they absolutely nail it and are hilarious.

What other movies come to mind for you?

You under estimate the writing there, Carey and Daniels nailed it but there was some great stuff in there

Look at the sequel, same actors, shite writing, awful movie

Scarface would have been a complete trainwreck without Pacino's performance carrying that film. Also, Heat was actually a shot for shot remake of a film Mann made in the '80s called LA Takedown. It's amazing how much more effective the diner scene was in Heat with two world class actors compared to the scene with two D-list actors in LA Takedown. LINK

Castaway. Bad actor in that lead role and that movie is unwatchable.

Taken. Liam Neeson carried that film. Anything other than a great lead performance, and that would have been a early-90’s Seagal film.

Name a Jim Carrey film. Ace Ventura, (When Nature Calls also!), The Mask, Cable Guy, even Liar Liar.
