This article is literally too stupid to insult. Alexandria may be the saddest town I have ever visited, including the ones I’ve seen in the third world. That place just reeks misery, literally. The smell from that paper mill is olfactory AIDS.

Next they'll list Bawcomville as a great place to retire

However, about three and a half hours northwest of NOLA lies a hidden gem full of excellent chefs whose skills could match the best in France, exquisitely beautiful hiking trails that explore deep, lush woods, and fancy (but most importantly cheap!) hotels. From the headline, I'm sure you are well aware I am referring to the criminally underrated, gorgeous small town of Alexandria, Louisiana.

While Alexandria and the surrounding area are small, they are chock-full of culture, proven even more by the River Oaks Square Arts Center. Oddly enough, Alexandria is home to a lovely holocaust memorial, which Jewish and German visitors will be sure to want to see.

If you want BBQ, Outlaw's and Eddie's have you covered, and the Cajun food at places like Pamela's Bayou in a Bowl, The Levee and Cajun Landing will leave you gasping for air (as you won't stop shoveling the food into your mouth)

Alexandria is more culturally relevant than Baton Rouge by a long shot.
But that really isn’t saying much.

One simple answer to this, how much did the Rapides Parish tourism department pay to have that trash written about itself.
It reads like one of those Clickbait posts that you can buy to promote your business with.
That is one of my concerns in journalism today where companies blur the line between paid propaganda and news with the information coming in the form of an article hosted on the outlets page.

I could sort of see Natchitoches but Alexandria? Really?
The Kisatchie is big and I believe most of it is pristine old growth but I don't think it lives up to that description.
Pretty generic.
Eddie's is good but there's lots of good gas station bbq across the south.
The rest is simply laughable.

Alex gets shite on a lot, but I actually like the place. If you want the big city experience then go to a big city.
Takeaway from the article is using Alex as the base to explore the surrounding area.

Despite being a hedonist, this upsets me not, as what you will find are large, clean rooms in new buildings, many of which have large glass showers. I personally enjoy staying at the Fairfield Inn & Suites off MacArthur, but I've yet to be disappointed by a hotel yet in this lovely place.
Yet, they have a Fairfield there?
