the vast majority of Kisatchie is old growth, or at least mature trees

However, about three and a half hours northwest of NOLA lies a hidden gem full of excellent chefs whose skills could match the best in France
Another little know fact... Kansas has the most amazing beeches.

Pretty dang good, but wouldn't have made my mention in an article...

This place is closed now because the food was so bad that nobody ever went.

quote:The paper mill has been gone for about a decade. You said it literally reeks yet have no clue what you are talking about. Classic.
. That place just reeks misery, literally. The smell from that paper mill is olfactory AIDS.

we have fine dining at Walk ons and Texas roadhouse. Let me tell ya.
While I dont think of Alex as a romantic getaway by any stretch you could do worse than coming in for Riverfete or Winterfete and staying at the Bentley a night or two and catching meals at Diamond Grill, Cafe Desoto for lunch and brunch at the Bentley before heading out.

Eddie's used to be good. But that's probably been five years or more now that I think about it.

Actually wasn't a terrible time. Aside from the "snow" that was just soap bubbles

Yeah, the article is obvious satire. But I grew up in Pineville. Lived there from kindergarten through 2nd year of college. It was a good place to be a kid in the 80s. I have fond memories of my childhood. Moved to BR in 91, parents moved to Mandeville, so I don’t go back anymore.

Alexandria is more culturally relevant than Baton Rouge by a long shot.
But no one is saying BR is a great place for a romantic vacation.

River fete is a really good festival. A bunch of people good music. Good beer. Parking is easy.

The accepted definition of old growth is forest that hasn't been logged, burned or cleared in 120 years. Precious little of Kisatchie meets this definition, likely significantly less than 5%.
The accepted definition of "mature" as it relates to trees can refer to a tree that has reached 1/3 of its expected height - a definition that has virtually nothing to do with "old growth."
I'm guessing you just really don't know that much about Kisatchie and it's history, or even trees in general.

Alexandria may be the saddest town I have ever visited, including the ones I’ve seen in the third world. That place just reeks misery, literally.

I was just raised in the heart of Kisatchie and spent most of my childhood exploring/playing/hunting it
but you are right, I am not a forester, so I don't know the technical definitions

I love my town. We eat at the Copeland's on MacArthur every year for our anniversary, it's where we met when we were waiting tables while we attended LSU-A. It's pricey, but dadgum it's nice. Spinach and Artichoke Dip?! Yes, Please!
