Very true. Ironman is not extreme enough, where I live. Everyone has completed one. Running a marathon is cute, though.

I ran the Boston Marathon back in 2015. That’s the only one I’ve done, but I’d like to do another. It was about 40 degrees and drizzling rain the entire run.
My time was nothing to brag about, but honestly my only goal that day was to cross the finish line.
Was fortunate and didn’t have any issues of cramping or anything like that. Couldn’t walk the next day though.

I’ve heard stories of the entire body cramping the last mile and other extremely painful things happening during the run.
First half that I did at Disney enlightened me with how the body adapts to what you are doing. There was a section, probably 8-9 miles in, that you ran under faster runners as they passed over you on an overpass. All the slow pokes, like me, waved to the runners above. When I tried to lift my arms to wave, I, physically, couldn’t. Was the strangest feeling. All of my body’s energy was allocated to my legs going forward, and nothing else.

Running my second in 3 weeks.
Honestly, I'm a little nervous. First one was not good. It's demanding and I thought I'd never finish

Mountain marathons.
I used to see folks doing this around Steamboat Springs...I honestly felt sorry for the folks struggling to get over the continental divide. I'd bet 1/3 of them didn't finish.

I’ve ran a couple of half-marathons but never a full. I really enjoyed running the halfs and might try a full one of these days if my knee cooperates.

It's not hard. Step one: start running. That's it, there is no step 2.

The modern use of the word dates back to Philippides the dispatch-runner. Bringing the news of the victory at Marathon, he found the archons seated, in suspense regarding the issue of the battle. 'Joy, we win!' he said, and died upon his message, breathing his last in the word Joy
Yeah, no thanks. The original guy died after running that far. 76'4" was the length of the vault runway. That was enough for me.

There are actually many and many steps that go into it

My first one was the Dark Side Half at WDW in 2016. About mile 8 or 9 is when exhaustion just thumped me in the head. Luckily they gave those energy gel packs. About that time. It hit me about half an hour later. Around mile 11 or so and gave me the boost to finish

I've done one full and a few halfs. I respect the hell out of anyone who does a full. I didn't run a marathon for anyone but myself, and I did it, and I feel good about that. That shite was no joke for me. Training was the hardest part. Getting home from work and feeling beat and then having to lace up and run in 20 degree darkness was tough.
That said, I get so much more personal satisfaction out of a 10k trail run than a 42k marathon.

I've done several 5k's
Good enough for me. Did the St.Jude 5k in December, and didn't drink anything before or during the race, and cramped the frick up in last 200 yards. Never again will i be passing up water/gatorade while running.
Zero ambition to go any further. Good distance to run or walk, and enjoy the day out with people, but not long enough to make you want to go home and lay in a tub for 5 hours..

I liked the training, had issues with heat and rolling hills. Fixed the hills problem.
And yes, if you like them, seems you always gravitate to something more extreme.

That's 3 miles bro. I run that nearly every day going to the gym

Same. I dont think I'll ever do another full. Maybe, but idk. Part of me wants to do the Goofy challenge at WDW. The 5k, 10k, half, and full.
I worked nights. So I'd get off work at 3am and go running afterwards. A mile, then up to 2, then I was doing 5 a night to prep for it.

Yep, some of these the elevation gain is enough to tire a walker.
They do a 5k in Seward every 4th of July up Mount Marathon and it's crazy . Record time is 41 minutes.
