Had our basset hound since my son was in kindergarten and passed away today on his first day of senior year. Never left my side and was often the only company I had during countless late-night work sessions at home. Wife found him lying next to my spot on the sofa.

I don't know how people voluntarily sign up for round two of this.

This is gonna hurt like a motherfricker.

Sorry sport.

That’s all I got.

Good dogs are better than people.

Not much to say to that, tough losing them. Getting another does help, not a replacement, but pets generally make you happier.

I’ve been there several times and can still shed a tear for each one.

You have years of memories.

Sorry to hear that man. We were lucky to have ours 15 years. Wife took the loss hard. She doesn't want another. Basset hounds are awesome dogs. Keep the good memories.

He'd been slowed by arthritis and spondylosis and had a bad couple of weeks. I think the medication he was given probably did him in. We took him off, and he seemed to be recovering in recent days. Was fairly normal today until wife happened to look over and he was gone. Thankfully she was home today while I was at work.

Am I heartless? I’ve never had a personal attachment to any dog I’ve owned both as a child and an adult. Sorry for your loss.

My condolences.

We lost our dog of 14 years earlier this summer while we were on vacation. The dog sitter said she just didn't wake up. It hit home once we returned and the house was so quite without her.

It will get better because all I remember now is the good times we had and there were a lot of them.
