I just signed up for the Louisiana Marathon, the price increases Tuesday. This will be Marathon number two, a little over a year apart and the goal is to PR by over 37 minutes. Last time was 4:07 and I'm thinking I can do sub 3:30. I'm currently doing about 30 miles a week and did 10 miles at 8:00 pace last weekend. I may do a half in early November to check fitness.
Just throwing some goals out there!

New Orleans people , I need some recommendations.
My professional conference is in June and I'll be staying at the JW Marriott on 614 Canal St.
Do you recommend or know some good 5 -12 mile routes around there ? I need to get 35 miles during the week.
I wont have a car but can get one if safety is an issue in that area.
If it's easier, please feel free to message me on one of my Strava runs so we dont derail this thread.

Ran a local 5k race here Saturday afternoon.
Went 19:58, good enough for 7th overall and 2nd in age. Hot run and it felt terrible. I need to dive back into speed work soon

After talking it up a few pages back, my Garmin 230 gave up the ghost this morning. Water got under the screen and the display went all crazy, then it started vibrating non-stop.
Since I was completely lost for the 4 hours I didn't have a watch, I stopped by Varsity Sports and bought the last Garmin 235 they had. Will be interesting to see how this wrist based heartrate monitor works. I've never used an HR monitor, so it'll probably be a game for me for a little while to see what the high score can be.

It sucks. It's intermittent. I have the 235 and used it quite a bit for run training a couple of years ago when I was running seriously. Maybe they've improved it since then, but the optical HR was practically useless about 80% of the time.
Typically, the HR data would look like the one below from one of my runs back then:

Fortunately, I don't really care one way or the other. I just want the watch for pace, distance, time and a clock. Anything else is lagniappe for me. I'll look to see what the HR data says, but it won't change the way I run or use the watch.

Strava website has you covered Sand.
You can go to segment explore and go to the area around your hotel and zoom out and it will show you segments in the area.
You can also do heatmap and it will show an overlay of people that have run in an area. There’s an intensity if it’s a heavily traveled area.
That being said, local runners may know the safer routes.

3nOut,
I didnt know that existed on Strava and even found some segments in my neighborhood. Cool feature.
There are some highly active routes right by my hotel according to the heatmap so , in theory, I just have to run faster than the slowest guy so I dont get robbed and shot ! Guess I have a month to focus on speedwork.

You can actually do segment explore on the app on your phone. It’s under “more” at the bottom right. That’s how I scope segments to snipe when traveling (I’ve only gotten a few in my years of travel.)
Heatmap is exclusive to the website though.

You could run on the Riverwalk. I'm going to be down there tomorrow night and Thursday morning. I'll drop you my number on Strava. Maybe we can link up and run if you want some company. No promises though since I will be partaking in heaving drinking tomorrow night.

I live downtown and run a good bit. There are many routes available to easily get any distance you want.
st. Charles ave to Audubon park
convention center blvd / riverwalk and then to crescent city park
esplanade ave out to city park
laps around the superdome on the elevated portion and parking decks so you never have to deal with traffic and can incorporate the ramps.

Black n Gold & ks_nola,
Thanks for the feedback and this helps tremendously. More importantly, it keeps me off the treadmill for the week.
It will be cool to see the city from a different perspective.
Seeing all the strava pictures from vacations makes me realize how much fun traveling & running can be.

It makes traveling a lot better. I used to go to the gym, go drink beer, and watch TV at the hotel.
I now find new areas of the city I had no idea existed.
For instance, tonight I learned that the San Antonio riverwalk goes about 6 miles south of downtown. Never knew that but I just ran it and it was a really beautiful (but hot AF) afternoon. Forget you’re in the middle of one of the biggest cities in the US for a bit.

Got 3.0 in on Monday at 26:16 (below my target 27:27 pace). It was hard. I took a week off last week due to random and intense mid-foot pain.
I’ll burn through 2.0 tonight, 3.0 tomorrow, and 4.0 Saturday and complete week 2 of the Higdon Novice 1 Half Marathon plan. So far, I’ve come in under time every run. My first 4.0 mi run was May 4 and I beat my pace by one second

It’s the best way to see a new city imo. I just went to San Diego for work. I did a long slow run all over that city and took in the sights. I wouldn’t have gotten the same feel any other way.

Yep, did the same in Sedona.
Brutal arse 5K based speed workout this am that I pulled from LR.com

3 X 1000m @ 5K pace (6:15)/400m jog

Hal Higdon Novice I Half Marathon
Week 2, Day 2
2.0 miles in 16:26 (pace was 18:18)
Felt good today. I feel as if I am getting my pace down. Going to relax tonight and go get another 3.0 tomorrow and my second 4.0 mi run on Saturday.
