Stretch those calves...like multiple times per day.

Strong showing today HB.

NIH, stretch like a mofo. I’ve gotten to where I stop and stretch calves midrun all the time. Sometimes every 2-3 miles or so. If I’m not in a race I’d rather be able to keep running than be in pain.

It just limbers me up a lot and I usually can maintain around or below an 8 minute pace with ease if I just stretch them out. Usually I find a post or sign and do the below for both feet.

That alleviates shin splints and Achilles pain for me

Freeze a bottle of water and rub your shins with it multiple times a day. Also if your shoes are old or have 350+ miles on them, try a new pair. Get on a bike or some other form of cardio for a week to limit impact. I suppose you could keep running, but it’s probably going to take a while to get over if you continue to run. That’s my $.02

I just got a new pair of shoes and have been rowing and using the spin bike like crazy but it doesn’t replace running for me

I played tennis tonight and it was tough let alone going on a 3-4 mile run

I have identified two bad habbits that I should drop that would help with weight loss and better running. I'm not certain I could do both at the same time so I am coming here to see which I should drop first.

1. I usually have 6-12 beers from Friday to Saturday. I drink IPA's which have a lot more calories then say bud light. I do not drink Sunday - Thursday or if I do its rare.

2. Red Bull... I drink at least two 12oz regular red bulls everyday. Adding a 3rd is not uncommon and is likely happens more often than not.

I am leaning towards red bull because I believe its doing way more harm than the beer, but wanted to know what yall thought.
And yes I am unhealthy AF these days. I'm 6'-5" and currently 233. I have lost around 6lbs since April 23.

Whoa, I just googled the nutrition info on a 12 oz red bull out of curiosity - one can has 38g of sugar. That's a frick ton. From your post, sounds like that's at least 76g of added sugar a day, maybe over 100g of added sugar if you add the third can. Start there and substitute black coffee or a caffeine pill if you have to have the pick me up. I have to imagine you'd feel better making that switch alone.

I'm not gonna tell anybody how to live their life, but, if you could cut back on a few of those fri-sat beers, you'd likely have more energy to put in a few more miles on the weekend. Most of us with work and families are weekend warriors anyway. More free time to log miles on the weekend.

I was assuming (hoping) he was talking about sugar free Red Bulls but if not then yeah, start there.

And on this note, I've been having a beer or 2 3-4 days a week here lately. I had gotten out of this habit for a good while, but damn sometime I just want a beer. Of course, the whole time I'm worried how it will affect my training, sleep, etc. This tangled web we weave.

I've tried sugar free and hate them!

Based on the comments so far it seems like red bull is the way to start.

I guess the next question is cold turkey or decrease amounts over the next few days or weeks type of approach?

It isn't Heroin Brah. I'm no Medical expert but I'm thinking you would be fine cold turkey.

Roots... did you see my speed work from yesterday? Not the results I was hoping for, but unfortunately the results I expected. Going to try and put a long run in on Saturday instead of Sunday and get one more speed workout day in next Monday before the race. Too little, too late I fear.

A mother fricking 5k next weekend. I am in no way prepared. I have done three, maybe four true speed workouts over the past two months. He knew this much when he called me out.

I'd give up the sugary Red Bulls first. Sugar is the devil. Switch to sugar free Red Bull, or even better, Bang or Reign energy drinks. You can find one of those flavors that's similar to Red Bull.

12 beers over Friday to Saturday seems excessive. I'm with you on IPAs though. I'd just make sure my food intake is adjusted so that you can still enjoy your beer.

I've dropped 22 pounds since the beginning of March (188 to 166), and my beer consumption hasn't really changed much. I drink an IPA or 2 pretty much every day. What has changed is my diet (low carb, except for beer), and a commitment to running. You can't outrun a bad diet.

Lose the sugar, keep the beer. And run.

Drink half the beers you normally do on the weekend and half the energy drinks. I love both but I drink neither anymore. Alcohol is literally poison and Redbull is terrible for your heart.

If your not going to get rid of both, why not keep both and do less of them.

Best of luck man, giving up shite is tough.

I seeent it. I’m going out at 6:00 pace. Crash and/or burn baby!

And I’ve never done this race but please set the expectations low. I mean it’s at the Jambalaya Festival, after all. I’d be surprised if the bibs are chipped.

As far as training, that speed workout that I did yesterday is it for me. Definitely not doing anything else close to that between now and the race. Next week will be pretty light. Gonna try to go into it pretty fresh for a change. That said, I have a wedding to go to the night before, so there’s that.

BMoney - any interest in heading down to GTown to join?

Had lunch run at 82 degrees and 70% humidity. Absolutely unbearable.

I really really hate summer.

I feel you man. I'm in the same boat. These last couple of days have been brutal. Not looking forward to this Summer training plan starting next month. Due to my schedule/family commits, most of my runs will need to take place during the day. Insane.

Kids just finished school so now it’s on me to get up early and knock out runs in the morning.

I just spent 3 days in San Antonio and Corpus drinking too much beer and eating horribly and have to go to a conference on South Padre next week where we have to take customers out. I’m going to have to make up some ground for poor choices somewhere in there.
