I know I'm going to sound like an old fart but...

Even though today's technology is unbelievable to what we had back then, I can't see kids making as fond of memories now as we did back in the day.

I mean if kids spend most of their free time playing online games with their friends, how many fondmemories can you actually make from this?

Do you think opening a real arcade in today's world would be successful? Sort of always been in the back of my mind, but beyond the novelty factor, they all closed down for a reason.

My in-law’s business down here in south Florida is an arcade with a go cart track, batting cages, and laser tag called fun depot. It still does great. There are tons of really cool new arcade games still. Obviously they are more specialized/interactive like shooting, racing, prize games, but there is a massive retro game movement as well...massive displays of space invaders, pac man, etc. Summer camps, large groups, birthday parties are their main source of big revenue and they’ll do multiple days of pay one price each week. To this day my father in law still roots against the dolphins despite being the local team because when they do well less dads take their kids on sundays.

I go to the arcade and amusement convention with them every November in Orlando. It’s amazing.

1. Select the channel desired
2. Play with the tuner disc that went around the knob
3. Play with the rabbit ears
4. Bang the side of the TV

Perfect.....for about 10 mins

ETA: Bonus - Got to stand right next to the TV for a minute when you put on Benny Hill for the ole man

Sleeping in a puddle of sweat because you don't have AC.
Sweating all day in school for the same reason.
Polio.
Nothing but a test pattern on the tv after 9PM.
Very limited lifesaving medical technology.
Having to hunt through a set of encyclopedias to find an answer.

ue to education, awareness & common sense kids won't experience following closely behind the mosquito abatement truck on their bicycles like i did.

A few years back, there was a rash of head lice in my son's grade. It just would not go away. I swore it was because kids don't run behind the mosquito machine anymore.

As for the OP: getting to watch Christmas specials only one time each season - you missed it and you were SOL,
All the good ones were on CBS, where the CBS special presentation circular graphic would precede the program. Could someone link that??

Ah, the good ole days - still loving the this thread!!

Countless late night hours were spent during the Summer of 91, playing Phantasy Star 2 leveling up characters while talking on the phone to chicks. Multi tasking.
The Genesis was awesome. This game is a top 10 of all time.
