Going to Blockbuster to see if the new release DVD is behind the empty box....and for older peeps...be kind, rewind

My parents used to have a red Corvette VHS rewinder.

I used to have to do the rewinding before we took the movies back.

Drinking out of the hose because you were not allowed to come inside. I still like hose water when I'm cutting the grass.

When I was starting school, my Dad told me if the principal ever felt the need to paddle me, I should tell him to call my Dad at work first.

Needless to say, I took the couple of paddlings I earned from the principal WITHOUT ever bringing up placing any calls to my Dad at work.

Using a pay phone on the street corner.

I was in New York last week, happened across one in the middle of a subway (Brooklyn, I think). I wish I had stopped to see if it actually worked.

My go-to anytime this topic comes up is the magic of Saturday morning cartoons. When I was growing up (70s/80s) you might have a cartoon around 4-5pm on one of the 3 tv channels in your area, but those were generally old Bugs Bunny or Tom & Jerry reruns (which are still fan-damn-tastic!). Other than that the only time you had cartoons was Saturday morning and it was almost like a Christmas morning each week.

Any other day of the week I would struggle to get up in the morning (whether for school or not) but on Saturday mornings I would sometimes be up before the station signed on (stations back then ran only from ~6am-midnight), patiently waited for whatever crap farm report or 50's/60's rerun was on prior to network programming (ex: Father Knows Best, Three Stooges, etc) and then sit in a transfixed fashion as cartoons played til around 10-11am (and switching channels back and forth between commercials).

Jerking one out to the Sears catalogue. Watching All in The Family. Waiting in line for the new Led Zeppelin or Pink Floyd album.

There was...and then being able to pick out your candy after finding the movie....those were cool times!

The funniest thing I remember is when my blockbuster got a small section of these weird things called DVD's....and watching that section get bigger and bigger lol
