What's The Perfect Squirrel Rifle?

If money's not a huge issue, what does your setup look like?
Want to know it all-caliber, manufacturer, customization, glass, etc.
Looking to keep it light weight.

I'm seeing some high tech barrels out there, looks like a carbon material. Definitely want a nail driver that I can hunt a lot of small game.

Probably this with a Swaro z8i 1-8 if I didn't care how much I spent. That would be a $6k squirrel rifle though.
Edit: So just for fun, my budget choice would be a CZ 455FS with a Meopta Meopro 6x42.
My highest choice would be between a Sako quad and Volquartsen summit. Both with some sort of 1-6 optic like a trijicon accupoint. I could see myself spending the $2k on either of those setups but not $6k on the Cooper. The CZ with meopta would be like $800.

There isn’t. If that squirrel gets away, there will be others. Deer, on the other hand, can be once in a lifetime. That money goes into a deer rifle.

My pre war Marlin 39 lever action with a 2-7 x 33 Redfield on top. This thing has the best trigger in the world. Yeah it's not a high end scope, or even medium, but it doesn't seem to handicap me.
Caliber should definitely be .22 lr. The .22 mag and the .17's will just wreck too much meat when you don't hit the head and aren't necessary. My preference is for the solid round nose lead bullets. They tear up even less than long rifle hollow points, but you can't always find them.
If I couldn't have my Marlin, I'd maybe look into the CZ bolt action. I've never owned a bolt action 22.

Growing up, my grandfather had that exact gun. It was passed down to me, but I’d love to get another one just like it. Know where I could find one?

They are still in production. Plus, I'm sure the usual used sites have a few.

This. Have one. It’s the original take down rifle. Designed over 100 yrs ago.

You really don't need anything more than a bone stock Marlin 60 or Remington 552 Speedmaster if you're into semi-autos.
For a bolt gun, the Savage Mark II is plenty good enough.

Probably the cooper 22lr.
Browning t bolt or ruger m77/22 are also damn nice.
My personal choice would be a marlin 39A

My grandfather had an old over and under with a .22 on top and .410 on bottom. I think it was made by Savage. Always thought that was the perfect squirrel gun.
