I reply to it with a huge laugh.
They have workers building stuff for less than a dollar an hour and are selling it to the US for several times the cost. The workers are getting by on scraps while the govt drowns in money.
The cities of China are so overrun by smog that it always looks like it about to rain... even on a sunny day. They wreck their environment.
When a worker gets hurt they fire them and shove in a replacement. That is not a joke like you see in TV satire. It happens.

One of my patients used to travel there for work. He said the regular people’s lifestyle and technology lags about 20 years behind what we are accustomed to in the U.S.

Obviously it would do them some good to travel to the parts of the country that aren’t tourist hotspots.
Walk through villages full of abandoned children whose parents left them to go work for next to nothing in a factory. I see it frequently and it’s always one of many reminders that communism doesn’t work.

Please explain to us what low wages and the destruction of the millennias old village agricultural way of life has to do with communism ?

Manipulation of their currency to keep goods cheap. Planned failure of all the goods that they manufacture so the rest of the world has to buy a new one every couple of years. What would their GDP be if their products lasted 10 to 20 years?
