What type of work will you be doing?
Naval Architecture/Engineering. Will be working inside but will need to walk the yard some too. I will be walking on gravel, concrete, and boats. I will not be doing any labor in them.

Do you have to have steel or can you use composite toe? Composite toe is much more comfortable. Ariats make a fine composite toe boot.

Do you mean steel toe? Get some Georgia Boots

My last three pair have been Tony Lama water proof.

I'll second this but they were not steel toes (though that was available). The pair of Red Wings I have now are the most comfortable Steel toes I've ever had. Tried Ariat, did not like.

The pair that I use on my job now are not boots. $20 Brazos Men's Mesa Slip-on Steel Toe Work Boots
SUPERSOLE® 2.0 8-INCH BOOT
The shank will spread the uneven forces of the gravel across your foot and provide support. Steel shanks work as well. Logger style boots all have good shanks, typically steel.

I work inside all day but occasionally have need to go on the deck. These are very comfortable.

Those steel toe moccasins suck for climbing ladders, they kill your feet because they have no support shank in them.
OP, I do pretty much what you do, the ones I linked on the last page work great. Previously I bought the WORX brand made by Red Wing but the Georgias hold up better. If you ever in Larose stop at Ledets, beat selection in Houma/Thibodaux.

They feel like house slippers. If I was from Florida, I’d wear them with jorts.

I do virtually none of that, work on a deep water structure now. I rarely even go outside except to look at the Gulf. If I was out on the deck a lot, those would not be my first choice.

I've worn the 20 dollar brazos shoes from academy every day for 15 years. they last about 8 months then I get another pair. If you don't need boots, but steel toe is required, they are hard to beat
office to field to dinner out, they are all I wear

I love my Irish Setters. I believe they're made by Red Wing.

Doc Martin has an amazing steel-toed boot that will last you at least 2 years with every day industrial wear and tear. I'm on my 3rd pair and I've been working in the industrial sector for around 10 years.

i work in manufacturing.
we use lots of oil based coolant.
a few co-workers wore Redwing and the boots fell apart.
would not recommend.
this work environment is hard on any boot though.

Thorogood...if you go with lace up. Durable, VERY comfortable, no break in needed and American made. They do make a pull on (Wellington style) boot but I haven't tried those yet.
