He needs to BEAT Alabama. Nothing else matters. I agree that he was poised and under control in EVERY game EXCEPT Ala. This is why our FAN base hates him. He CHOKED against our most HATED rival. This was the ONLY game I went to in 2016 and it STILL pisses me off!

I'm a huge Etling fan. But if he can't roll left and throw it past the los, I will watch Brennan very closely

I'll be honest. He is the first quarterback who before playing his first snap I believed was not a LSU caliber player. This is because of what I saw at Purdue. He has been nothing but mediocre in the games he has played. He makes some nice passes but then misses an open receiver by throwing it 5 yards out of bounds. I do appreciate his work ethic though, it seems like he works his tail off at every practice and doesn't act lazy during warmups. He knows his job is under pressure and he hasn't been bad enough to lose it.

His heart is in it. Average QB talent wise. That's ok. Manage the game, no turnovers, profit.

Before this thread I might have agreed with you but it is overwhelmingly clear that "our fan base" doesn't hate him. Just a few loud idiots like yourself.

Hell even the guy I was arguing with earlier said he didn't hate Etling.

I truly think Etling gives the best effort he possibly can every game. And, he has a knack for avoiding costly mistakes

For ten years Tiger fans have been saying, we don't need a superstar QB , just a leader who will distribute the ball efficiently and manage the game well.

Well.....

He's a breath of fresh air compared to what we've had recently. I love that we finally have a fast twitch qb with a short release that feels comfortable scanning the field in the pocket. He may not have the best arm, but it's better than 90 mph fastballs on every throw with zero touch.

He's not "Dual Threat" enough for many of the little non-competitive, non-athletic fartknockers on here. They love the "Glorified Running Backs with quick Feet" playing QB that can't hit the broad side of a barn throwing the football.

Most of the normal adult fan base out there, (Not the professional message board kids) like what Etling brings to the table and think he's "Good Enough" to win the SEC with. (If only we had an SEC Championship caliber OL, which we don't)

Only 3-4 college teams have "NFL" type QBs

You are correct and winning in college football at the championship level mostly requires a QB that is above average or close to draft status.

Winning with a Etling type of QB depends on a total team effort unlike Watson last year or teams with a Cam, Winston, Tebow or Young. These guys carried a team and there are just so few. Alabama has won with QB's similar to Etling and so can we.

No you are not the only Etling fan...most of those that do not like Etling, want a back-up qb playing instead....

I'm not sure what you're talking about, as if nobody likes him. I'm not gonna crown him "greatest ever," but he looks much improved from last season. It's amazing how much being able to feel your leg and having a new QB coach and OC has helped—so far, he's thrown some TD's and no INT's. The competition is about to get better and I hope he keeps it up.

Why does a guy get credit for almost leading a team to a last second win on the final drive when it was his play that directly influenced needing that last drive to win in the first place? How is that a logical thought process? Our D didn't allow a single touchdown and we lost the game. Before the last drive of the game against Auburn he had 77 total passing yards.

Pass protection that game was horrid. Etling was getting hit every time he dropped back. He literally was beaten and bloodied after the game. He also came back from a helmet to helmet targeting hit from a Auburn LB. Despite that he led the team to the final score which would have been a win if the previous HC had managed the clock better.

As for the D not giving up a TD, they gave up drives of 7, 15, 8, 9, 10 and 11 plays. All for FGs. They struggled keeping the Auburn O off the field. It was great they stopped TDs, but this was the worst performance by the D outside of the A&M game. Those last 2 drives of 10 and 11 were in the 4th QTR. So despite not giving up TDs, you can't give up 6 drives with an average of 10 plays per drive and consider that acceptable.

Etling will be fine if the offense line gives him time!
