Agree with this post. Etling is our key to great season, and so far he is playing great - just like last year with the exception of the BAMA game when having 1,000 pounds of Bama snot snorting beef on his arse all night did intimidate him.

He gets credit because he did it. When we needed a drive at the end of the game, he took the offense down the field.

A lesser QB/lesser man wouldn't be able to gather himself after playing, as you put it, poorly the entire game and put the team in position to win.

I'd also argue that CLM was partly to blame for his poor play. The game plan and play calling did not do Etling any favors.

My question is why wouldn't he get credit for putting it together for a last minute drive?

It is possible to look at our QB objectively and not just try to shite on him because you don't think he's good.

And there most definitely are fans on this site that are outright cheering for both Danny and Coach O to fail, whether it's because they need to be right or that they just don't like the guys.

I like him also, and doesn't need to be NFL level. How many QBs are actually NFL level, when all said and done. Two of best sec QBs tebow and manziel weren't NFL level.

Well that logic can be used for 115 of the 120 DI QBs....

Because it wasn't successful? Because we lost? Because the offense was terrible for the entire game? Because we only had 14 total first downs?

frick no. I think he's solid in every respect with a lot of potential to be great. He certainly looks good so far throwing, overall managing, pocket presence, running...can't see any deficits at present.

Anyone not supporting our starting QB right now is forgetting the recent past

the only one of those reasons that applies to the FINAL DRIVE is that it wasn't successful. My counter point to it not being successful I pointed out in the OP. For Auburn, we ran out of time which was CLM's fault considering the calls were slow to come in and they didn't have any sense of urgency before the final play.

The rest of your points have nothing to do with Danny coming through in the clutch when we need him. They are you trying to shite on anything positive that Danny did. Regardless of the rest of the game, Danny pulled it together during crunch time.

If there was 1 more second on the clock, would that all of a sudden change your perception of Etling? What if Guice scores against Florida? In the end, things outside of Danny's control caused us to lose. He did what he needed to do to give us a chance.

Who doesn't like Etling?

The usual suspects are infatuated with the #2 QB, big surprise.

You clearly misspelled Mett when you meant Rohan.

Which one of these aren't true?

They are you trying to shite on anything positive that Danny did.

Listing facts is not "trying to shite" on a player. I'm not sure when listing things that literally happened, and can easily be looked up and verified, suddenly turned into this "shite on" term you keep overusing. It's a fact he had 31 passing yards total towards the end of the third quarter.

quote:

He did what he needed to do to give us a chance.

The defense did what was needed to give us a chance to win. Because the opposing offense didn't score a touchdown. All game.

Unfortunately this has become a very common theme when discussing things here.

Of course not. Reasonable people don't have the need to get on this site and b$tch 24/7. The idiots are always the loudest on the internet because they're the only ones who care enough to spend all their time complaining on a message board.

Etling is no athletic freak, but he's accurate when it matters and makes good decisions under duress. My only issue with him is he's streaky at times. He seems to get in his own head and throw a few bad passes in a row before calming down and getting back into focus.
