Yeah that's crazy how much water KHS got. That whole area was like a river.

We're looking in timbergrove. Could get a redone 3/2 for 550k, with plenty left for private school hahaha.

Our first house was in timbegrove. Great spot easy commute downtown the elementary school is good and likely improving. Will soon be out of that price range due to the location.

I believe the house where I spent my youth has been torn down and replaced by a nice two story home....have not been back in years......

Was coming to suggest it...Briargrove is doing well, we stayed high and dry last week. Not quite inner loop but close enough. Can still get a decent house for under $800K (not one of the nicer ones, but decent).

Check out West Lake Houston Parkway in the Atascocita/Humble area. I live in Bridges on Lake Houston. You can get a house on the lake with your budget if that's appealing to you. There are several othe new neighborhoods going in on WLHP besides Bridges. Atascocita Highschool is good, but Summercreek is not so great. Not the worst, but not great.

I live in Oak Forest and we really like it. I wouldn't buy west of Rosslyn due to Harvey flooding issues.

Texas has some of the best public schools systems in the country.

As a state they are near the bottom. There are good school districts in nice areas

800k might find you a place in Bunker Hill or Piney Point zoned to Memorial.

Or east of Beltway 8 in Memorial area is zoned to Stratford.

I'd do that over Oak Forest.

Nobody making that kind of scratch wastes their time on internet message boards. Unless they are a stay at home trophy dad.

Memorial was very attractive to me until I realized that parts of it flooded three times in three years. I'd have to be very careful with area. Seems like Piney Point has been fine whereas Hedwig and Bunker Hill, not as much.

It's funny how there are two kinds of posters in this thread. People with some familiarity with Houston who treat my post as very normal and those who do not have the same familiarity.

ETA: honestly I thought all the flames would be calling me OT poor for looking anywhere but River Oaks.

Not as familiar with Houston but in general this is terrible advice. Being close to work is indeed a quality of life issue. Two hours a day in a car means spending 15-20% of your life in a car, not counting sleep.

Pretty much the norm for that size house in nicer areas close to the centers of Dallas or Houston. Big city living is different, and the DFW and Houston metros are 2 of the biggest in the country.
