I’ll look him up. Thanks for the recommendation. Did have you on an Estate or public land?

Through my research so far I would opt for an Estate hunt. So looking for one with plenty of acreage and not one where we go out and shoot one in the backyard. I know those exist. We want the experience for sure, but there is too much money tied up in it to go and hunt public land. I’ve read they are plentiful on public land, but they just don’t have the size.

Wanted to see if any of you have ever done a stag hunt in New Zealand. I’m working on planning a trip for ‘21 and looking for other’s who have done this for pointers, outfitter Recommendations etc. Been to NZ once before so I’m familiar with the islands etc. Went to the Houston Safari Club outdoor show yesterday and got pumped up.

I love hunting in West Texas. I have a lease in Louisiana I will hunt on for the foreseeable future, but my long term goal is to have somewhere in Texas to hunt. It just costs so much more. The terrain and variety of animals in a Texas is just so much more exciting. I shot a free range 11 point a couple of years ago in in the Sonora area and misses him the first time. Was a long shot. He ran over the side of the Mesa and was standing there for another shot when I got over there. Would have never seen that deer again in Louisiana. So I’d say West Texas is a little more forgiving too. lol

Correct, this one was just shy of 32” if I remember correctly. Anything over 30” is a trophy. Again the mass on this one with the length of the G2’s or whatever they are is what makes this one special in my opinion.

Here is the one I got in Rocksprings. The ranch is surrounded by other ranches that restrict access to their water so this guy literally has all of the axis on his ranch. My dad shot one that was about an inch longer than this one, but didn't have the mass or forks this one has.

The Rocksprings area is a great place to go. No need to go high fence around there. They are plentiful and good number of large bucks. June July for the rut and they will be growling/bugling. Did a hunt this past July and killed a stud. Low fence ranch was overrun with them. Just hunted the water holes. Also you can visit Texas Hunting Forum for even more insight. A lot of knowledgeable people on there. A good outfitter is Mike McKinney who owns West Texas Hunt Organization. He runs a great outfit and has a lot of land access. I can give you the name and number for the guy I call when I want to get a hunt set up too. He is a guide for other outfitters and knows a lot of people. It wouldn’t be a super posh set up, but he’s a great guy and works hard to get you on animals. Also does arrow head digs in the off-season.
re: Question for OT Ballers - Suit Shopping *UPDATED*
Posted by HTownTigerFan on 1/4/18 at 9:02 am to Kreg Jennings
Find you a J.Hillburn stylist and they will come to you and measure you and bring fabric choices for you. Very reasonable for what you get. Can get custom shirts, tuxedos, suits, polo shirts. Can also get belts, ties, socks, shoes and other accessories through them too. Most of your clothing is made in Dallas. Definitely worth looking into. Once you go custom you won't look back and you don't have to step foot in a store. Once you are measured you just pick a fabric and boom new shirt delivered in a few days.
re: Where would you live in Houston if your budget was 750-800K (Mostly Inner Loop)?
Posted by HTownTigerFan on 9/6/17 at 5:53 pm to Keys Open Doors
Check out West Lake Houston Parkway in the Atascocita/Humble area. I live in Bridges on Lake Houston. You can get a house on the lake with your budget if that's appealing to you. There are several othe new neighborhoods going in on WLHP besides Bridges. Atascocita Highschool is good, but Summercreek is not so great. Not the worst, but not great.

re: Jeep: Soft Top vs Hard Top
Posted by HTownTigerFan on 5/8/16 at 10:17 pm to finchmeister08
Yeah, having both is nice, but if I had to choose I would stick with the hard top. More comfortable during winter and much quieter. I rigged up a simple hoist in my garage to raise and lower my hard top. Cost me 6 tie down straps.
Your hard top is worth more than his soft top, so make sure you get some cash from him with the trade if you do it.

I bought the SR 1911 a couple years ago and love it. Shot it in a side by side comparison to my friend's Kimber and I preferred the trigger on the Ruger fwiw.

re: Best suburb of Houston to buy a house?
Posted by HTownTigerFan on 6/15/15 at 1:13 pm to Sev09
I live in Bridges on Lake Houston, just moved in there from Lakeshore a couple of weeks ago. Both of these just down the road from Summerwood. Have lived in this area for over 8 years now. Depending on what time you leave I can and frequently do make it to downtown in about 30 minutes or so. I work past downtown so I keep on going, but it is very doable. There are 5 new communities in development right now on West Lake Houston Parkway, so plenty of options along with Generation Park going in too. Traffic will likely be very trying in the next couple of years and it will take a while for the city to catch up and put in measures to help traffic. You can buy houses in all price ranges off of WLHP. Anywhere from the mid 100's to over 1 million.

re: Going to Maui

Agreed, driving it was half the fun! And definitely drive all the way around the island. Don't turn around and head back after the 7 sacred pools. We left our hotel at 7:30am and didn't get back until after 8:00pm. Best and least costly thing we did while in Maui. I would pass on the helicopter tour, just wasn't that impressed and for the price.

Everything Mizzoukills said is spot on. One of my favorite vacation spots and I've been all over Europe, AU and NZ. Biking down from the crater was a blast too.

re: OB opinion on Chevy Silverado LTZ?

I have a 2014 and it does shake between about 73 - 78 mph. Sometimes it doesnt and sometimes it does. I researched and found it to be very common and they dont know why it happens. It doesnt bother me anymore since I know its not just my truck and its not eating the tires. Very strange, but other than that I really like the truck.

re: NYC Patient being tested for ebola

I believe it is only transferable through touch, therefore it is not airborne and is only transferable once syptoms are present, not before, but even once someone is dead it is still able to be transferred by touching the body. They are burning the bodies in Africa. This stuff gets pretty nasty in its later stages. You just started bleading.

re: Buick Enclave vs. Chevy Tahoe
Posted by HTownTigerFan on 4/25/14 at 9:56 am to Polar Pop
My wife had an enclave as a loaner while her work vehicle was in the shop. I must say I was pleasantly suprised when I drove it. It was optioned out and just as luxury, comfortable and smooth as other higher end SUV or crossovers I have driven. Much easier to park than something like a Tahoe. As a male I wouldn't want to drive it every day just because it is a bit more femanine, but would not mind at all driving it on occassion. Great vehicle all around in my opinion.
