They raised their own money but that includes taking money from some of the graduate schools. If they had raised the money from outside, I would be fine with it no matter how stupid I find it but the fact they are taking money from within the university I think is ridiculous to allow this group to have it's own ceremony. I think the Latin graduation is just as ridiculous

The only guy in my high school graduating class that went to any Ivy League school was a black guy. He graduated like 10th out of 500. No doubt he is a smart guy, but no smarter than the others, and they didn't get to go to any Ivy League schools.
Plus, I was put on a waiting list to a University (hard to believe of me to you fellow OTers, I'm sure) and then I was shown a month later how that school was actively seeking black students to fill the upcoming freshmen class.

To be fair, 90% of them wouldn't have gotten in without their particular racial background so maybe this separate graduation makes more sense than we are giving it credit for.
