I have a few friends who are into the whole crossfit thing and they keep trying to get me to join.

they insist that the trainers are pretty good but I just like working out/running alone.

I feel like being self motivated is what its all about.

Don't have a problem with people who like to train in these group type of deals.

but some of the exercises seem pointless to me. My football playing days are long over with and some of the excercises they do seem pointless to me.

like how am I going to benefit from still doing power cleans? I don't know.

but whatever works for you I guess.

That's the reason I don't do it. I hated doing squats and power cleans for sports. Now that I'm finished no point to do it. I much rather run and create my own workout routine. Plus I like going to the gym whenever I want not during specified group training hours

One of the largest detriments of aging is losing your explosive power. Cleans help negate those losses big time. So do all other explosive lifts. its about power transfer.

Think about it, old people move slow. They do so because they have lost the ability to fire neurons that term the muscles what to do along with the ability to effectively transfer the power.

Plenty of online programs to follow that you can do at a regular gym. Brute strength is probably the best

I encourage each one of you who've never tried CF to at least try this wod, or any hero wod for that matter. And don't do it for the name of CF, do it out of respect for your fallen hero's who died for you. I guarantee you, you'll have more respect for the sport and for them afterwards.
Crosscult gold right there. Crosscult is exercise, not sport. And it has absolutely no sacrifice like our fallen heroes have given. NONE.

We all know you excel at racquetball and water aerobics by now. So run along and go tell some other thread about how cool you are.

I'm in rotten shape, so here goes:

quote:

1 mile run
first mile, could finish in 10 minutes. Might need oxygen after.

quote:

100 pull-ups
you could give me a day and maybe I could finish. Always had trouble with pull ups, being double jointed in my elbows.

quote:

200 push-ups
can do. Might take me 30 mins or so.

quote:

300 squats

Squats after push-ups are easy. But in my shape, this would take about 15-20.

quote:

1 mile run
2nd run would be a power walk with an oxygen tank.

And maybe roller blades.

So yeah, I could do all that.

Would probably take me a couple days, though.

Same dude.

Now I only do the only two workouts that chicks care about.

Arms and abs.

No point in doing heavy lifting, but you like to run?

Unless you're an absolute coach potato, do you know how much shite you do daily involves squatting? When you're talking about burning fat & building muscle there aren't many better exercises than the 2 listed above.

Running lol

I was a long time Crossfit hater, ended up getting bored with the normal gym and gave it a try. I enjoyed it and have been doing it for almost 2yrs. How long can I sustain it, idk. I haven't had any injuries and actually have less pains than when I was just lifting daily.

As far as murph goes.......it is much harder than it sounds. The fastest male at the Crossfit games did it in 38:30........that's straight thru with a 20lb vest.

I did it on Memorial Day in the same fashion in 53:00. The problem is once the heartrate gets up after the run and into the pull-ups. That and just muscle failure. I'm good at push-up but those 200 kicked my arse.

One could argue there's no point in doing a lot of shite in the gym.

As far as functionality, there's probably 5 or 6 moves that are worth doing consistently that are practical for everyday life and movement.

Squatting
Deadlifting
Overhead Pressing
Lunging
Dipping
Pullups

Total body right there. All of them more "functional" than distance running, but tons of people run for distance for no reason at all.

Edit: except for the fact that they enjoy it.
