Davis will never be "the face of the nba" because he just isn't marketable enough
wat?
its a pretty simple concept, just because someone is a great player, doesn't mean they are marketable. tim duncan is the greatest player of his generation but kobe and lebron are easily more marketable, and thus more famous.
Anthony Davis is arguably the second best player in the nba and we are having a discussion if he is more famous than a rookie wide receiver on one of the worst teams in the nfl last year, that should tell you all you need to know.
you pelicans fans probably see AD on all the commercials during your local broadcasts, you guys need to realize the national audience doesn't see those commercials.

Did you see the disparity in twitter and facebook follows/likes between AD and OBJ? It wasn't even close. And OBJ frequents social media too.

i absolutely did, which is why my first post in this thread said that neither of these guys are particularly famous. if you want to go by twitter followers, kevin love and john wall have double the amount of followers of AD. Damian Lillard has more followers than AD.
Lebron has 21 million followers, AD has 700k. is Lebron 30 times better at basketball than AD? No of course not, this just shows that basketball greatness does not equal instant marketability/fame/etc.

IMO NBA fans are more likely to use social media. There's a lot of middle aged men who don't use any social media who are fans of nfl but not NBA.

Yea and that's awesome for OBJ to be ranked so highly on that list... but go through that entire list. It's horrible.
It's the leading publication on Sport Business and is used in Sport Admin curriculums across the USA
It's based out of London and encompasses all sports, so a lot of those names aren't known to the beer guzzling, American arm chair QB

Gotta be OBJ.
Plays in a bigger league.
Plays in a bigger market.
Despite playing AD 82 games a season, OBJ was seen more.
Due to "the catch" he was even more exposed.
Your big stars in the NBA are Lebron, Kobe, Curry, Harden, KD and maybe a couple others...maybe. Not to say AD isn't a top player in the league, because I believe he is, but the media wouldn't have you believe that. There is no current "face of the NFL", but OBJ has a ton of hype.

I'd say AD Obviously not an exact science but for reference AD has about 755 thousand Twitter followers to Beckham's 395 thousand.
Also AD 1.6 million Facebook liked
OBJ 480k likes
And yes you can use social media as evidence. Clear answer is AD.
Well OBJ has 1.5 million Instagram followers.. So I would call social media a wash.
AD plays basketball in New Orleans. He is no more famous now than he was at Kentucky.
Odell plays football in New York City.
This isn't fricking close. Have some of you seen the ratings a regular NFL game gets? And he was talked about constantly all last season.
And LOL at that guy who keeps bringing up 181 million March Madness viewers like that is the same thing as 181 million different people. Don't be dumb.

Top receiver in biggest media market that made the catch of the year
Or
Top player on small media market team that got blown out in 4 games after barely making the playoffs...
Uhhhhh...

AD plays 4 times as many games
AD plays in a league with Los Angeles teams.

This is arguably one of the dumbest statements I have ever seen.
AD IS a superstar, Odell isn't to that point yet. The Superstars in the NBA are bigger overall stars than in the NFL (Lebron for instance is much more popular than Tom Brady). Say this isn't even close is absolutely ridiculous. AD is more popular right now globally and nationally, is the better talent, and is far more recognizable.

I get NO isn't the biggest market but that's such an asinine statement.

OBJ.
People underrate how much more watched the NFL is than the NBA.

OBJ. Not even close with him being on the cover of Madden 16
Posted on 6/2/15 at 12:12 am to Srbtiger06
Hell, OBJ beat out Rob Gronkowski for the Madden cover.

I pretty much agree that Davis is no more famous now than he was at Kentucky. In fact, he is on tv a lot less and talked about a lot less. It's a fair point. Not everyone lives in New Orleans. No one else ever sees him. I mean he obviously is slightly more famous, but nothing substantial. He spent a year being talked about every single day. That year was spent in Lexington, Kentucky.
That said, that fame is much bigger than anything OBJ has had, so he still beats him.

More people know Anthony Davis' face in a landslide. OBJ could still walk around most places in the country without getting recognized. That makes Davis more famous.
