It's 2000; What are you arguing here regarding who won Florida?

I'm arguing that Gore won. Had I been old enough, I would have voted for Bush.

ETA: I've watched the debates and looked at records. Voting for Gore would have been ridiculous, especially having seen Gore go off the deep end since.

I'm pretty sure there were no recounts that showed this.

Gore lost. Would have lost through any honest recount.

Someone tried to rig the vote in a few precincts and ran the wire through the wrong hole in the ballot (the Buchanan hole). Instead of invalidating all the votes except Gore's, they invalidated a bunch of Gore votes. Sucks to suck.

Bush won.

The dems probably had 30 or 40 thousand illegal votes.

Lucky that dumb pos Gore wasn't in office when 9/11 came to pass.

If by "won", you mean "got the most votes cast in Florida"? It was George W. Bush.

If by "won", you mean "succeeded in blocking an unconstitutional, selective recounts after election results had already been properly certified in accordance to Florida election law"? It was George W. Bush.

If by "won", you mean "received Florida's Electoral College votes"? It was George W. Bush.

If by "won", you mean "won the Presidential election, fair and square, albeit by the slimmest possible margin of victory in the Electoral College"? It was George W. Bush.

The media tried to frick Bush by calling Florida before the panhandle precincts closed, and Gore tried to help himself by confining the recount to only those counties that strongly supported him. They did a statewide recount and Bush's lead widened. He won. Get over it, and thanks for allowing me to roll out this classic.

This board is awesome. I say that I would have voted for Bush and explicitly say that Gore would have been a terrible president, but saying that I think the masses chose Gore is dumb.

They picked Bush in 2004 and Obama twice, didn't they?

You guys really are fun. I'm just glad that Republican voter fraud is at an end. If we can kill it for both parties, and enact a constitutional amendment that bans private funds in general elections, we'll have a pretty amazing country.

For as bad as a POTUS as GWB was, can you imagine how fricked we would have been with Gore? What a clown show that would have been.

I think it also speaks to the level of incompetency of our presidential candidates. Hard to believe a country that has sent men to the moon couldn't find anyone more capable than Al Gore and George Bush......

Actually, Bush really did win and by quite a bit more than originally thought.

They did an entire recount and his margin widened. The media hardly reported it, though. I remember it at the time and was wondering why it wasn't a bigger news story so that the crazies could stop with their conspiracy theories. I knew the answer, though.

Bush won in every way possible and would have been declared the winner even if the Supreme Court had not stepped in.

I still have no idea how that election was so damn close. Sure in hindsight, Bush wasn't what we were promised during his campaigned and he largely turned into a big government neocon, but at the time there were few objectively good reasons to vote for Gore. Bush was the overwhelmingly logical choice at the time, far moreso than what we saw in 2004, 2008 or 2012.

I just want to see Rex's thoughts on this subject. It's sure to be entertaining.

Anyway, Bush had Florida won and the Supreme Court made the right call. Gore was being a sore loser.

If you can't follow directions and make sure your chad is all the way punched your vote doesn't count. It is take simple and takes a grand total of 2 seconds. Bush won Florida.
