Just looking at a few pictures of the bar on Yelp, it doesn't look that much of a dive. The pictures show a couple of pool tables and multiple TV's plastered across the walls. I remember Janita's serving serviceable food and their tap list consists of Nola brown, Nola blonde, Hopitoulas, Irish Channel, Lazy Magnolia Southern Pecan, Jefferson Stout, Abita Amber and Abita wheat. The tap list isn't great, but it is certainly tolerable.

Pre-Katrina, it was much more gritty. Now its had a nice renovation.

Byron use to manage that place too. I miss the guy. He's likely still studying for the lsat.

Thanks for mentioning Shiloh. It's been killing me. Place was very interesting.

He drinks enough it's just much earlier in the day when many decent food options are still available.

Love's Lost Lounge in the Marigny; BJ's in the Bywater (the place where Robert Plant dropped in and sang with Lightnin' Lee's Band about 6 mos ago); and JJ's Sports Bar in the Bywater. All great dive bars.

I've been in several of these. Keep trying to think of any not listed. Marie's and Big Daddy's are pretty dive-y. IMO, a bar loses a lot of is dive credibility though when it becomes a cool place to go and starts getting Yelp reviews from hipsters.

Business surveillance video shows a man holding a smoking, flammable device, eventually shoving it into the door of the former Jimmy's Music Club, now the Willow, then walking away, the device still smoking.

That man is Michael Miller, owner of the Carrollton Station bar next door. He posted a photo of himself on Facebook last week, admitting in a comment he stuck a lit ear wax candle into the door of the club.

quote:

He said he lit the device at his business during a Jan. 12 football game, thinking it would be good luck. When he learned the device was meant to suck wax out of of ears, he brought it to the Willow to, "suck out all the bad mojo," because he said the club has had a hard time getting business since it opened.

quote:

When building owner Jimmy Anselmo saw the Facebook post Monday, he called police. Miller was arrested and charged with attempted simple arson.
“This is arson. They could have burned my building down,” Anselmo said.

Ol' Jimmy can't take a joke.

It's not. They set up a decent patio area, and the inside is fine.

You may get shot walking to your car late at night but where in NOLA is that not the case?

The food is adequate, on par with decent bar food.

That's good to hear. I've been wanting to get over there for pho. Is it a late night thing or do they serve it during the day ?

I ran into Byron a year or two ago on Bourbon Street. He was a barker for Scores Gentlemen's Club and we had a good time catching up. That dude was a trip at Jimmy's and the Hangar.

Henry's is my current favorite, not as divey anymore though and NOW SERVING FOOD.

I've been knowing him since his Hyde Park days. I was also told that he may be on Bourbon. I drink a lot down there, so my head is on a swivel. If I run into him I'll take a pic and post it to this thread. I've had some fun nights with that guy.
