NotreDame statement says on Dec. 26, coaches informed by Manti Te'o and parents that he was "victim of what appears to be a hoax."

And, what? They just decided to keep that tidbit of information to themselves?

No way you can read that and think he didn't know.

Why would he lie so much about speaking to her on the phone and shite otherwise?

This is too big for the media to swallow. They are going to band together and play this off with "he was a victim angle". There will be no concession from ESPN, CBS or SI that this was perpatrated by Te'o.

He could start convincing people by providing a receipt of the flowers he sent to her funeral and where he actually sent them.

Then maybe release his phone records to show he was talking to someone all night and waking up to hear them breath.

Then possibly explain who he actually met at Stanford and when he was in Hawaii.

Then explain why he didn't alert the media so the story wouldn't continue to be perpetuated leading up to the NCG and NFL draft.

Some more lies on top of lies probably won't help.

Sounds a lot like a very odd catfish scenario to me.

The article reads like Tuiasosopo could have orchestrated it without T'eo's knowledge... but what would Tuiasosopo's motive be?

Really? What about Teo's own interviews/words and claims that he met her in person?

How do we know Deadspin is correct?

They said they did research.. but how can we be sure?

I'm going to wait until we know more before making up my mind.

if he'd never met her, that doesn't mean he never spoke on the phone with someone claiming to be her.

How so? Te'o says he talked to her, tweeted her, sent her flowers, met her, etc.

Forget Notre Dame. What about Sports Illustrated? Who the hell are their fact-checkers? How does Pete Thamel have a job? (I hate to agree with Auburn fans)

Can you imagine the meltdown on the Rant if this had been an LSU player?
