Saw them post on gofundme link on their Instagram story tonight. Raised $24k for the kids family and medical needs.

Does anyone know how the injury happened? What a terrifying thing to go through as a parent.

Prayers to the family. I can’t imagine.

Read somewhere on here that he got hit with a comebacker in the head. Absolutely awful and prayers out to the family. As well as the kid who hit the ball, I can’t imagine what is going through his head.

Especially for a 14 year old who was playing down in 13U because he was held back in school. The kid didnt do anything wrong, obviously. He was operating within the rules. The rules need to be changed though. For the bats and the grade exempt kids.

TBI’s are scary. A guy in my model train group suffered from one when he was in the navy. Did some pretty severe permanent damage. He’s a few IQ points away from being an actual retard.

TBIs are life altering for both the parents and the kid. Unfortunately we know it all too well. My youngest suffered one playing HS football nearly 3 years ago. The body is quick to cover but the worst of it is unseen. We've had to work through 2 suicide crisises since his body recovered. Impulsivity and horrible decision making are also huge problems. His girlfriend throughout HS stuck with him until a very poor decision by him 15 months ago.

Money goes so far but what the family doesn't yet realize that they need is long term emotional support. If my wife and I hadn't dealt with NICU when both of my kids are born, I don't think we would've been strong enough to survive as a couple. Showing you care in a year will mean everything to them.

In all youth sports (played outside of school), age is the determining factor as to what group you play in. The kid's grade level in school is a non factor. You could be an 18 year old sophomore in HS and you will not be playing in any youth organized sports.

You are 1,000% incorrect

For travel baseball, each team gets two age exemptions for held back players. So exactly as he said, a 14 year old can play in 13u if he was held back a grade. Each team gets two of those minimum. Some leagues allow unlimited age exemptions

ETA: look at people upvoting your completely incorrect post

100% this. The drop 5 five bats need to be outlawed at 13 and 12u which is even more dangerous at 50 feet mound distances. Large percentage of players are held back and a year older than the age bracket. This is a deadly combination and its only a matter of time.

The kid who hit the ball was almost a full year older than the kid who was hit in the head. Again, not the kids fault. The rules need to be changed. A full year difference in the early teen years is a huge deal.
