he is only 2 months older than most 13u. so February bday.
So he turned 14 in February and is playing in 13U???? That is not only two months older than most in 13U.

Hell I saw just last weekend a third grader with a May birthday (usually playing 9U kids pitch AAA) playing 8U coaches pitch because his birthday allowed it. All because they turn that age between May and September.
top me though...this is more the parents need to hold the kid back. that usually is what ends up happening by the time they reach middle school

cut off for 13u is may 1. he is a little over 2 months older than them.
i mean should kids with december birthdays not be allowed to play with the kids with summer birthdays?
2-3 months is not some big deal

IMO that is a huge problem. And he's not 2 months older than most 13U kids, he is 2 months older than the oldest kid allowed in 13U that isn't grade level exempt. And in no way is this the kid's fault but this is where I see an issue. Kids want to play with their friends and their grade level. Most kids born between May and August are playing with kids in their grade.
I assume this kid is 14 years old but in 7th grade (grade level exemption). He is playing against 13 year old kids in 7th grade.
There could be a 7th grader he plays against that was born September 1 2013. This kid was born in February of 2012. That's 18 months difference. Think of how much a 13 year old matures in 18 months and tell me why they should be on the same field.
no sept of 2013 would be 12u.
sept of 2012 would be 13u.
he could be a year older than some but he is only 2.5 months more than the older 13u kids....again not that big of a deal in the grand scheme and you will be competing against him in hs and kids much older and competing to make the team against him

Grade exempts are a huge problem. Put that with the bats and I’m surprised it hasn’t happened more. Too many parents want to say their little Timmy is so good but never out they are bigger and older than everyone on the field

at 13 and 14 they arent but fine just do away with them until 14, then they are bbcor and 60/90 and will be facing kids much older than that in just a few months

No, he’s not. If he is 14, he’s been held back and a grade exemption. Many kids that have not been held back and have spring birthdays have just turned 13 in the last few months and are playing 13U. He’s a full year older than them and 7-9 months older than kids that have fall birthdays.

When it is backed up to 60/90 seems like the right time for that
13U (54/80) | 80’ | 54’ | 275’ | 300’ Lower Level AA/AAA generally
13U (60/90) | 90’ | 60’ 6” | 320’ | 375’ Higher Level Majors generally
14U (60/90) | 90’ | 60’ 6” | 320’ | 375’

Sure when they get to high school, that’s their 14u year plus summer. Puberty happens. Huge difference. And your point of arm injuries is absolutely incorrect. 6 foot of distance does not create arm injuries. That’s just dumb. Number of pitches, playing year around and velocity are the primary indicators of arm injuries

Directors Will not approved this due to the fact that they will lose money. The AA teams would suck.

No, he’s not
Go look at the average 13u rosters. Most kids will be turning 14 around May-sept. That’s the normal travel ball roster age range by far
So on average he is 2-6 months older than most kids .
ETA: it’s basically the book Outliers. The oldest kids dominate. Just how it is

Prayers up for the young man. We were lucky on more than one occasion when my lil guy pitched.
I used to have a good friend with that name. Be crazy if your last name started with a "C".

Simply wrong, he is 2 months older that the oldest allowed age. 13u kids don’t turn 14 during the season or they would be 14u kids. Stop with that lying

I’m just dropping by to say playing down is for pussies. My baw plays up to play with his class. I laugh every time someone tells me their held their kid back for sports that will make them exactly $0 in the future
I’m not blaming the kid for what happened. I’m blaming the culture of holding kids back so they can be older than the people they are playing against

If anyone’s son is playing at Traction this weekend, find Traction Canes 13U Black and I’ll give your son a helmet sticker. We play at 10 and 2 both days.

We are in NOLA. My boy is 11 and plays 12u. He’s bigger than most of the 12 y/o’s tho
Considering letting him stay at 12u next year too

My oldest daughter had a subdural hematoma - brain bleed - when she was eight. Fell on her bike in front of the house. I was out running and coming up the road to finish when I saw my wife carrying her across the yard.
Took her to our local ER to be checked out. They did a concussion check and sent us home with instructions to watch her. She couldn’t walk. Slurring her words. I was pissed. We called our pediatrician and he said bring her to (the bigger hospital) about 20 minutes away and he would meet us.
Long story short she was airlifted to Huntsville and had to have a craniotomy. Didn’t know if she would live or die but the neurosurgeon and his team saved her life. Dr. Joel Pickett, Huntsville AL. He sat us down and asked us if she was wearing a helmet. I looked down and sheepishly said no.
She had a full recovery and is now 34, married with one son.
Don’t let your kids ride bicycles, ATVs or motorcycles without a helmet. You may disagree but really don’t let them ride street bikes at all.

u trip -5 bats are way too hot these days
Especially after they shave and roll them. Should have to submit these bats for testing so often. Paid by the parents.

Yes they do. You may want to consider looking things up before spewing BS as facts. The age cut off is April 30. So a kid that turns 14 on May 1st is 13U regardless of grade.
Did any of you that are splitting hairs over a couple of months in age play baseball growing up? It wasn't too long ago that youth baseball leagues in Baton Rouge were 9-12 on the same team, 13-14, and high school.
Arguing about the bats being too hot is one thing but the arguing about the age part is ridiculous.
I'm sorry for what happened to this kid and I hope he has a speedy recovery, but in all sports their is a risk of injury which unfortunately, in very rare instances these injuries can be life altering.
