Dealing with the stupidity of the general public would make me go off...

If individuals, like this woman, are spitting out kids, this country is doomed in the the next 50 years,

BTW: the patience of these cops go above and beyond of what's expected.

My office's WiFi blocks embedded YouTube videos, but I feel like I don't even need to watch it to know what happened.

Obviously "single mom" going to pick up her kid is pulled over for speeding...

Car is registered in NY, but has a Texas temporary tag that comes back to nothing...

They give the woman a chance, but due to her stupidity, they wound up arresting her, and of course, the crying starts.

Going to jail and impounding the car will help her more than she knows. It sucks, but it's the right play.

Idiocracy at its finest. Pretty sure i saw Luke Wilson in the background.

Also if the draw is saving people and early retirement then I'd become a Fireman way before i became a police officer. that Job sucks, no doubt

Vast majority who want to become cops are on a powertrip and have massive egos/god complexes…. Let’s not be naive, it is a tale as old as time .

Only thing that would be off from your expectations is she's about 200 lbs lighter.

Cops are like garbage men. It's not a fun job but it needs to be done. You don't want to live in a world where the trash never gets picked up.

This is not true for the most part.

All the years I did each one made me care about people more than most and treating people with respect and dignity even in their worst moments and showing younger officers that was the right way to do business makes me proud.

Please dont paint with a broad brush.

I wouldn’t say vast majority but you aren’t far off

I knew two guys at my small high school that ended up becoming cops. Funny enough they were brothers and the older brother was your typical good ole country boy, didn’t cuss drink or smoke, went to church and bible study. Not the smartest or most popular but just a really solid good human being. I saw he got deputy of the year or something and has turned out to be a solid LEO

His younger brother was your typical dumb redneck who likes to drive his old loud shitty truck fast around town, always showing off his guns or knives, said racist shite from time to time and just a general idiot. We all know the type. He didn’t make it two years before getting run off.

Basically there are a couple different type of people that are drawn to the police force. 1. Good, solid person who just wants to protect and serve and 2. The idiot who wants to play cops and robbers, carry a gun and have perceived “power” Just the nature of the profession imo. To your point I would argue there’s more of the #2 variety than #1 but there are good cops out there

I’m not sure how they keep work forces. I imagine most cops are former military which feeds right into the structure or generational gateways.

A lot are exposed to it and prob don’t explore other options so don’t know any better. Hell, why would someone want to be a garbage man or a waiter/waitress? People take what they can get or what they’re exposed to because a relative could get them in.

Full time jobs for low skilled workers are hard to come by in our area.
Cops in our county get decent pay and have good benefits and a nice retirement pension.

I am in a near-universally impugned profession so I understand the feeling.

I spent most of my life with the view that it was a few bad apples that appear in every professional barrel.

My view has changed. The problem for the public is they see a lack of accountability. Qualified immunity leaves most police without any form of personal accountability. So often the one bad apple sees many more work overtime to run cover for that bad apple. Even when they get caught doing something clearly unethical or illegal, they get a soft separation and start work a couple of counties over. That requires a lot of "good" cops to cover the actions of a "bad" cop.

I get it is a tough job, for shitty pay, and the jobs have to be filled. However, until I see the system remove the ability for the bad apples to continue in police work I am comfortable in my opinion.

I had a HS buddy that tried it back in the mid 90s. He graduated and got put on patrol. He was shot at twice and dealt with numerous domestic disturbance calls. He quit after 18 months of it.

Good post .

You know what, after reading your post and a couple others here so far- im going to do soemthing rare.. Im going to be a guy on the internet who admits that he might be wrong… Maybe it isnt the ‘vast majority’.. maybe it is 50/50.. maybe it is 20% .. truth is, i dont really know.. as others have pointed out, all we really have to go on is our own personal experiences with people who have pursued a career in law enforcement … Thanks for provoking some thought .

"I pulled her over for 41 in a 40."

Florida is apparently small town Louisiana.
