Which is why they have the patience they do. Imagine your only motivation is a guaranteed check in 30 years. You can tolerate almost anything for that.

Stunned to see BK Lounge post what was just posted. Thinking someone hacked the account.

That being said, I don't think its anywhere near the majority or even 50/50 that are "bad."

The problem is that there are hundreds of thousands of officers out there right now cruising around doing their jobs and no one notices. Then one a-hole will do something wrong or stupid and its all over the news. THAT GUY is the one we all notice and discuss on the OT. There just isn't any meat in a discussion or news story of Officer Bob that dealt kindly with three a-hole motorists and then conducted a stolen bike investigation and found the bike in a ditch three blocks over before returning it to little Mikey. No one wants to hear about that, its what is expected.

Not true. You only hear about the bad ones so it gives the impression that most are like that. The majority are respectful and are not looking to pick a fight with anyone.

You got a link to that study?

I’ve known about 10 cops in my lifetime. 2 were a-holes that weren’t fit for the job, another 2 were a-holes but professional at the job, and the others were all nice and normal dudes.

“Why anyone would want to become a cop is beyond me”

I think that can be said about most any profession.
I was an ICU nurse 35 years,31 full time,4 part time.I got asked that question a lot.I can only say it suited me.

There are a lot of other jobs I would want no part of.If I had been an office worker in a cubicle all day I would have gone stark raving crazy.
Mechanic,plumber,welder,lawyer,teacher,restaraunt worker,on and on,lots of jobs I wouldn’t have wanted to do.

I have known a lot of cops, most are good people. There are bad apples in every profession.
Nurses- most are decent people.Drs- lots of good ones, some are horrible.

I spent 2 years on Navy Shore Patrol in Rota Spain,I enjoyed the freedom to ride around on patrol, breaking up fights, snatching up troublemakers and taking them back on base, such as that.
I hated dealing with auto accidents and domestic incidents. Those were main reasons I didn’t pursue law enforcement when I got out.

Good thing everybody doesn’t like all the same thing.

I like this version of the Frank Sloup channel with him reviewing/analyzing arrests much better than his relatively boring "writing speeding tickets" in Arizona content, which is what he is famous for. The BINGO feature is a nice a touch, too. I just watched a fun double bingo one.

He also comes across less dick-ish here as an analyst than he does as an actual law enforcer in the speeding stops. I love when I see a no-nonsense cop like him for crazy arrest videos, but the ticket writing ones just make him look like a condescending a-hole. So, I'm glad he's doing new content.

If you made it out unscathed, you have my respect.

You are a better man than me. I would have been fired for trying to knock some sense into a bunch of people.

Her voice changed after she cried and was trash talking in the backseat. That was weird.

Not unscathed but I helped my exwife raise 2 kids that are God fearing humans.

Being a peace officer is never an unscathed profession. IDGAF what you do in the field but you will be stamped with something/s that never leave you. Smells, words, sounds and sights that you cannot unforget.

We hear of soldiers having PTSD but very few think of what goes on here everyday. Peace officers pay a grand toll with mental illness and substance abuse to deal with it, as do soldiers, yet we recieve an "atta boy" and go home to collect a small amount after giving it our all. Look at the DV plates and MH plates on vehicles as you drive around.

I chose what I chose and I am not angry but its disheartening.

While cops make mistakes, they are 2nd to school teachers in dealing with the worst of our society. And they get shot at by that worst.

Depends on how well paid they are.

A detective in NYC can ear a quarter of a million dollars a year after ten years on the job.

Not making it up -

Article about a jerk cop but talks salary

LINK

Olsen, who earned $257,000 last year as a member of the NYPD’s warrant section, was arrested for allegedly flashing a gun at a stripper on Long Island.

“Do you know when Bambi’s coming out?” he asked, referring to another dancer, according to sources. He then asked her to text Bambi to find out.

Olsen, a cop in the NYPD’s Warrant Section which tracks down wanted criminals, then pulled up his shirt so she could see his gun and asked, “Have you ever been shot?” the dancer told Suffolk County cops, the sources said.

3.33% per year of three highest years pension. Don’t pay State taxes on pension or 5 year DROP account. Now they get social security. 403b with no state taxes and HSA with zero taxes. Extra Duty is $50 an hour. Take home car and awesome government medical insurance.

It’s a hard job. But those are awesome benefits.
