An accurate explanation of Louisiana and it's demise. Well done and spot on.
From the comment section, "An interesting tidbit about the Kingfish. He requested federal funds to build LSU a football stadium. It was denied but he was able to secure federal funding for new dorms. Not one to be out done, he built the dorms in the shape of a stadium."

I always heard it was the state legislator that denied funds for a stadium but approved funds for dorms.

Collapsing? It’s been in the toilet for 60 years. One reason

Yep did a three week independent study on this at USACE in college.

One of negatives that he failed to mention is that if MS River was allowed take over the Atchafalaya it would eventually rise and wipe out Morgan City and the other coastal communities along the Atchafalaya. There's more to it than just protecting BR and NO.

Maybe we could bring in a bunch of data centers to extract more subsurface water and increase the subsidence. Oh and then discharge that water after its been heated to destroy the estuary.

We've been over this already, idiot.

LSU has more money than Alabama.

Louisiana has more money than Alabama.

If you looked at a map of the United States and drew an imaginary a-hole on it, where would you put it ?

Would that make Alabama and Mississippi the taint?

GDP (2024):
Louisiana: $328B
Alabama: $321B

O&G Annual Revenue:
Louisiana: $25B
Alabama: $224M

Annual GDP Growth (2024):
Louisiana: 4.1%
Alabama: 5.3%

So enjoy that statement while you can because based on current trends, despite generating 20% of their GDP from O&G and having the Mississippi River, Alabama is projected to overtake Louisiana in GDP at some point in 2026 for the first time in US history.

We could begin to try and stop coastal land loss by diverting MS River sediments into the marsh, rebuilding land proven to mitigate hurricane damage. Let’s call it the Mid Barataria Diversion and get the Feds to agree to pay for it from the BP settlement funds.

Oops, blew that one due to the myopic political lens where the interest of the few overrides the greater good.

But not to worry, our governor is the lead in trying to negotiate the acquisition of Greenland, because who would know more about arctic geopolitics than a Cajun politician who gave us the highest sales tax in the nation, along with requiring the Ten Commandments be posted in our schools, the key issues he’s resolved thus far.

One more Katrina especially one that travels up the river towards Nola and BR, the long feared worst case scenario, and I doubt the Feds will have the appetite to bail us out again.

Among other intractable issues, so it goes. Huey Long is alive and well in Louisiana, where politicians serve to enrich themselves and their cronies.

The state may be collapsing but all I can think about is changing the brakes on my wife’s car on Saturday so I can get on the water Sunday morning. I know it’s a crappy time to be fishing, but I’ve been working too much and have to get out.

What else should we be doing to make sure the state doesn’t collapse while we are doing other things?

Politicians haves pillaged this state since its founding and will continue to do so until the end of time. The state was set up that way.

Wash, rinse, vote, repeat….

Sorry, we had to cancel that as a thank you gift to Billy Nungesser for opting out of the 2023 Governor's race.

But it's ok. The Governor's buddies are suing Chevron, et al for $745 Million to fix coastal erosion. Now...and very tiny, you won't even miss it, percentage of that awarded sum may have to flow through a few folks pockets who have zero to do with actually trying to mitigate coastal erosion, but tis a small price to pay.
