Suggestions for pizza sauce

Going on our annual guys trip this weekend and we will be baking pizzas under the drinking shed along with grilling. One of my sons isn’t a big fan of tomato-based sauce and I thought this would be a good place for ideas. Tomato sauce recipes are still welcomed and encouraged. Thanks!

Does he like pesto sauce? If so, do a Pizza Genovese.

BBQ chicken pizza is my favorite non tomato
For tomato, find a restaurant depot or commercial food supplier and get a giant can of Alta Cucina to make your tomato sauce. Drain the liquid and mill the tomatoes and then all you really need is a bit of salt. You got enough from one of these cans to try a lot of different things like adding a bunch of oregano for a more NY pizza style.
I usually separate and freeze the milled tomatoes into around 28 oz normal can size containers because I can't use all that at once. I usually add around 1T oregano, a clove of minced garlic, and some cracked black pepper/salt/sugar to taste. Sometimes I add red pepper flakes too.

Consider no sauce and just use fresh sliced tomato and basil. It would probably go great with some shrimp too.

Make a white pie. Olive oil instead of a sauce, then add any or all of these: spinach, artichokes, ricotta cheese, roasted garlic, italian sausage, fresh mushrooms, mozzarella, feta

Agree with this. I love an oil/garlic base instead of a gloppy red sauce.

My wife got a take out pizza a few days ago and it was just the basic dough drizzled with a bit of olive oil and topped with fresh bacon bits, Italian sausage, fresh sweet basil, thinly sliced tomatoes and cheese.
Pretty damn good pizza for not having any red sauce on it.

Papa Murphy's had a chicken, bacon, artichoke pizza with garlic sauce that was really good. It's a shame the one near us closed, I loved that pizza

A lot of folks in my family get bad heartburn from red sauces so I have started making a lot of white sauce and pesto based pizzas.
For the white sauce, I just use a good olive oil, ricotta cheese and some spices. For the pesto sauce, i start with the Costco pesto because that crap is as good and as cheap as I can make at home.
I'm no vegetarian, but that white sauce with spinach, mushrooms, and feta cheese is killer. It's also great with sausage, kale, and red/yellow peppers.
I love making pizzas with toppings you don't usually find on a pizza and one of my favorites has been a white pizza with sausage, caremilzed onion and sauteed broccolini.
For the pesto sauce, I like tomatoes, grilled chicken, spinach, mushrooms, and red onion.
I've also done pizzas mixing/swirling the pesto and white sauces, which was pretty damn good.
I love cheese, so I usually use shredded and fresh mozzarella slices. And a lot of pizzas are set off with fresh basil and a drizzle of balsamic glaze.
A good bbq pork pizza with a bbq base, pulled pork, and red onion is another killer combo. Lots of people do bbq chicken pizza, but I prefer the pork.

This place has a lot of different sauces and ingredient combos you don’t see everywhere. It should give you some ideas.

Third coonass vote for Monjuni's pizza sauce. We make home made pizza fairly often and its the one we've settled on.

You can make a bechamel sauce in 10 minutes. I make a veggie pizza for the wife using a bechamel.
