damn. seems harsh
Nebraska Teacher, 26, Facing 20 Years in Prison for Dating High School Graduate, 19
Cody Pester, a 6th-grade teacher and high school wrestling coach, is charged with sexual abuse for a relationship with a woman two months after she graduated
Nebraska schoolteacher Cody Pester, 26, and an 18-year-old female allegedly entered an intimate relationship two months after she graduated from high school
Pester is now charged with sexual abuse by a school official
If found guilty at trial, Pester could be sentenced to up to 20 years in prison on that charge
In the Spring of 2025, a sixth-grade teacher in Nebraska met a student in his capacity as the high school wrestling coach.
Cody Pester, 26, and the young woman began exchanging texts on May 10, which is the same day she graduated from high school in Palmyra, according to a probable cause affidavit obtained by PEOPLE.
On July 18, 2025, the two decided to enter into an intimate relationship, according to statements made by both Pester and the unnamed female, then 18, contained in the affidavit.
----------------------------------------------
Unlike other states however, a teacher is still in violation in the state of Nebraska if they engage in intimate relations with a student in the 90 days after they leave or graduate from the school system.

Is this an anti-grooming law? What changes on day 91? Are they suddenly ungroomed on day 91?

30 more days and it would have been ok? thats tough

It's definitely weird but there are probably some constitutional issues with this.

In Nebraska — as is the case in most every other state — teachers cannot have intimate relationships with students.

This is what got him.
Also, he got a $100K bail

I feel like that guys name had to be a factor in the sentencing. Cody Pester? Pester the molester is right there. Sheesh

yea i dont get this one. just make the shite simple...pick an age and be done with it, 18 and they are supposed to be adults...either they are or they arent.

Very arbitrary as the basis for a lengthy prison sentence.
If they started on July 18th, he was 3 weeks away from being legal.

I am batting 100% at being anti male teacher with student.
I still will be batting 100% because this girl was not a student. If the guy was 46 weird. He's 26. Still strange and lacks judgement but this is genuinely an insane charge. I'd sue the frick out of everyone and go up the courts because this feels unconstitutional.

I remember when I was a teacher that this was a thing we were told. Don't date a student even after they graduate because you can still get in trouble. What's dumb though is that if you teach at School A and student graduates from School A, you're in trouble but if you teach at School A and student graduates from School B, as long as they're 18 it's all good.
I'm not so much interested in defending teachers grooming students, but I don't think a mid 20's dating a legal adult should lock a person up for 20 years. That seems draconian to me. This guy could lose two decades and get slapped with a sex offender tag for the rest of his life for sleeping with a legal adult. That's absurd.

They’re going to ruin this guy’s life on a technicality? And 100k bond?
Meanwhile female teachers are banging 14 year olds and getting a slap on the wrist.
This whole thing is absurd

This is stupid.
She's an adult, graduated, close enough in age to the dude, and consensual.
Who ratted them out?

There was a case at South Beauregard where the student was of age and the soccer coach, who was much older, preyed upon her. In that case, he was charged and convicted since she was still a student. I understand and agree with that.
Former coach convicted of prohibited conduct with student 17 years or older
But in the case from the OP, she is out of school, of legal age, and the age gap isn't that big. Seems like an overreach.

Two legal adults consenting?

i mean i get it as its abuse of power and he deserves an arse whooping, but in the end they are either of age or not. they are either an adult capable of making rational decisions or not. and if what he did is considered preying on a kid.....wtf do we call military recruiters
