Dark vs Light seats in vehicle, how much does it matter? What colors do you like?

Helping my parents look at vehicles and tracking them down. Every time I find a color they want in driving distance, the old man keeps harping "I don't want dark seats! It's too hot!"

And sure, I get that, and if it were 1980, or even the 2000s, I'd agree, go with a light color.

But this is so they can haul grandkids, and the trims that have the safety and color options they want don't seem to come with light seats... but they have Remote start with climate control plus ventilated seats.

My argument is that those factors almost completely negate the 10-20 degree difference in the dark vs light seats. Plus dark seats don't show stains as easy.

All true, but the lighter colors look way nicer.

I’m on your side on this one. I hate light interiors bc I don’t think they look as good as darker colors, and they won’t show every stain.

I also agree that with remote start and vented seats that the heat shouldn’t be a problem.

Do they have a garage?

Their car, their choice.

With that said, work harder on convincing your mom about how seat color pales in comparison to such things as remote start and ventilated seats- maybe she can then influence your dad to be more reasonable.

Also, with vehicles these days coming with a certain amount of tint as well as less overall glass, that also makes a difference.

My wife is the same way. Brown/camel or white only for her. She won't even look at a vehicle with black leather

Most cars have sufficient climate control and the fabric color should be just a negligible factor.

Plus, the darker colors hide the stains better.

Tell him if he gets a lighter color, his grandkids 100% will stain it.

Could also get ceramic tint. They make it in clear now.

I hate dark seats and baggage interiors because you can’t find stuff. In cars down south you have the heat factor, too. And you have remote start now but you’ll almost never use it.

It matters, but you can mitigate it with a sunshade and a window tint. Get the max allowable window tint for your city/state. Makes a difference.

The idea that they would remote start the vehicle far enough in advance every single time they will be getting in the car is silly. Further, ventilated seats aren’t magic. I have a car with a light color interior with remote start and ventilated seats and still have a few minutes of uncomfortably hot seats at times in the summer. I, likewise, wouldn’t own a vehicle down here with an interior any darker than a mid gray.

Tint is a good idea.

He'd dead set against an all black interior (but it's not even black black it's an off black) found the trim she wanted with some taupe...but the seats were still that off black.

I told them to just get seat covers in whatever color he desired. Probably want them to protect the seats from toddler stains anyway

It's easy enough to get light seats with seat covers. Some of the seat covers look fantastic.

White Tesla with white interior myself and I love it.

Dark seats for me, but it's not a dealbreaker.
I've got a dark brown leather, a tan leather, and a tan cloth.
I'm good with either leather, I like the way the darker looks.
I hate the tan cloth because I can't get some stains out.

If it’s leather/pleather, I don’t want black seats, either.

You can do it with an app in about 10 seconds and adjust the climate to whatever you like

Sure. And I’m not going to remember to do that every time I go to get in my car leaving a store

I like mid brown leather if possible

Black is my least favorite. Which is annoying as it’s the most popular by a lot.

I will never own another vehicle with a black interior.
All i ever had was a black interior until i got my truck with a light tan interior and realized the huge difference in temperature in the summer times.
Sold that truck and went back to a black interior and hated it. It's got to be a good 20F hotter in the summer inside of a black interior car. Didn't even keep that truck for a year before getting the same one i had before with the light interior.

and the black interior always looked dirty.

Again, will never own another vehicle with a black interior.
