Been watching a lot of old movies.all the leading ladies have such deep voices. From smoking?

Just popped in Key Largo. Bacall is in her 20s and has a deeper voice any actress these days

Women today sound like dudes. It’s probably the hormones in fast food .

You ever considered the possibility that those women didn't actually sound like that, and it was just an affectation much like the transatlantic accent?

Julie London was Dixie McCall on Emergency! in the 70s and had that sultry, sexy voice. She was a singer in the 50s and 60s. 'Cry Me a River' was one of her big hits.

Short bit with her speaking voice with Dinah Shore.

US women all try to look and talk the same, it's weird, and by and large unattractive, some of these contrived accents are bizarre, I've been around a bit and there are no accents anywhere like some of these made up accents

It really is an ugly and unattractive trait. Im sure women feel the same way about men who speak effeminately.

I would say this is a big part of it. Gals like Bette Davis and Lucille Ball were heavy smokers and their voices changed from their younger years, while Olivia de Havilland rarely smoked and never had much of a sultry voice.

Bacall just always had a unique look and sound. I think she was still a teenager when she filmed To Have and Have Not.

I just had dinner with a mid twenties girl whose voice was noticeably deeper.

She didn’t speak with the inflection that a lot of women speak with now so I’m guessing that has something to do with it.
