Most of us are older than we would like to admit. Something made me think about this toy, today. Stop reading if you are under 35-40.

You pointed the arrow, and the mechanical toy made the noise of the barnyard animal.

It turns out, it had a record and needle inside. What was confusing at first, knowing how records move from outer-edge, to the inside, was how did this toy, from 1964 play different "tracks" while moving like a normal record and not play over other sounds, from left to right?

Then I had an "a-ha" moment. Each sound was a separate "entry" and went in a swirl fashion (thus the spacing on the toy, I assume). I thought it was really cool to figure out and was impressesed by the "technology" on a plastic toy.

I put everything I could under my $10 microscope. I "raised" the fuzzy caterpillars and deemed the stinging ones to be of Satan. The outdoors were an adventure and I even discovered today, that our toys were pretty cool.

The best game from years ago was Battleship. Why you might ask yourself? Back then a dad could play with his son while the women were in the kitchen doing the dishes.

The one in the picture is for youngsters. I had the OG, at least I think it was the OG.

There was actually something on The History Channel or Discovery or ??? about this. Same one that was showing the "yard darts' that ended up injuring some kids.

Yes, the OG. I had two, and both eventually began randomly assigning sounds to animals. Tweeting horses and meowing roosters are examples.

Thinking back now mine may have does the same thing. I just have the vague memory of something weird about it as I got older. That has been more than half a century ago so I can't be sure. JFC I am old.

My wife had one as a kid and one day she came home with it in a box of old stuff from her old childhood house. I pulled the string and it didn’t retract, so we thought it was broken and put it down on the dining room table.

About 2 hours later, we were sitting in the living room watching a movie and we heard a creaking sound from the dining room and a demonic sounding voice say “Listen to the cat…. RAAAAWWWRRRRR”.

It took us a second to realize that whatever was holding it back when I pulled the string earlier had broken loose and let out an animal message from the bowels of hell.

For a second our blood ran cold and we thought we’d soon be murdered by a demon cat.

Santa, by way of my grandfather, got me that exact NFL game. It was all fun and games until I turned that loud sum bitch on. I may have played with it for 20 minutes max before my grandmother lost her shite. Not that blame her, it was probably 5-5:30 and she hadn’t had her coffee and first Virginia Slim of the day yet.

The next year wasn’t much better. I got this massive race car track. Damn thing nearly spanned the whole living room. After the first 10 or so times no one would race me so I’d have both remotes full throttle screaming. To add, I also got a snake eyes gi joe figure so I’d set up different hypothetical situations where he’d get run over by the cars. I got that at my grandparents house. I never saw it again once we left there
