The one in the picture is for youngsters.
The one in OPs pic is a battery/speaker.

Tried to repair one that was from my wife's when she was a kid. The lever, string, spring mechanics is a huge pain in the arse to mess with.

Can find them on eBay and Etsy for $30.

Santa, by way of my grandfather, got me that exact NFL game. It was all fun and games until I turned that loud sum bitch on.

Same experience with me. Players just went everywhere and no sense of control. It took so much time setting up just to start it for 10 seconds to become a complete mess. Our friends all loved to play with it for a few minutes too.

I got this massive race car track. Damn thing nearly spanned the whole living room. After the first 10 or so times no one would race me so I’d have both remotes full throttle screaming.

We also had those, fun for 20 minutes but took up too much space and it got boring watching them go around the track.

I almost posted that too, I think I loved the GI Joe figures more than most of the other gifts I got over the years when I was young.

Skip a year or two and these were the holy grail !

I had the Oilers as they were my team.

When I was in grade school a little battery powered truck called Stompers were really big. We would bring them to school and race them during breaks. They had a gear you could take out where only the rear wheels would pull and we would put big tires on the back to really get some speed out of them.

I had one of those. It might have even has a little lathe with it. Also had an electric wood burning tool. When I was like... 8. Burnt the ever loving crap out of my fingers on more than several occasions.

Very much similar to this, only also very much less safe.
