Will City of SG and Central help fund Hillar Moore's DA and East Baton Rouge Court System?
If these cities do not step up and help fund our court system and District Attorney's office. That crime will become a problem for the entire parish and all municipalities with this parish. Crime and criminals won't just be contained to City of BR -that will spill over into these other cities. What is City of SG doing with all this money anyway? It seems it being wasted on busting massage parlors and vape shops. Like we need to spend this money on the real crime going on.

That's a parish system, not a city system.

What the hell are you talking about? Do you think we can just opt out of paying for parish services?
He's the DA for East Baton Rouge. citizens of St. George and Central don't have a choice. We pay taxes, just like citizens of Baton Rouge do.
Whether there's a dedicated tax that goes to them, or some other generic parish tax that goes into the CITY/parish fund, we all pay our share to the DA's office.

He doesn't know what he's talking...perfect example of why our politics are so sideways these days. The left and right have gotten less informed and more extreme.

As a resident of the parish I already help fund the DA’s office
Maybe the DA should do a better job of keeping criminals behind bars & not allowing repeat offenders to plea down

Moore gets almost every cent of tickets written in Central now. They have tried to create their own court but Moore has blocked it in the legislature because he doesn't want to loose that money. Also he pre trail diverts any case he can in the 19th. That keeps the money at the DA's office and doesn't get to the court..

That’s the point of contention.
The short version is that the cities keep their sales tax revenue without having to use any of it to fund the DA, the public defender, and a few other entities I can’t remember off the top of my head. How much this matters is a point of debate, but it is a legitimate bone to pick, at least at face value.

Marxist groups like Together Baton Rouge has brainwashed 40% of the parish into complete idiots.

SG doesn’t have city police or a city court system. Hillar is SG’s only prosecutor of misd and felony crimes.

You need a civics class on how a parish govt branch operates. The EBR parish DA and courts have always been parish wide and funded by same taxes across the parish regardless of being incorporated or not.
If the parish is cutting funding then it’s being used for BR is some way, in some other area, or the entire parish including BR needs to pay or shift more taxes to fully fund the DA and courts. It’s not because the people in the other cities aren’t already paying taxes that are supposed to be used for the DA and court system.
When the mayor-president says he made sure BR police and fire are funded fully but cuts from a parish wide program it seems to me that parish funds are again being shifted to cover services for the city of Baton Rouge. It was never just taxes from StG area (before incorporating) being used to cover BR.
City of BR has the shortage that its residents need to pay more taxes to cover or need to see a cut in city of BR specific services instead of parish services being cut.
The best thing for East Baton Rouge would be to end the consolidated BR and EBR govt and push BR to be totally separated from any control over parish funds and decisions. A wall should be brought back between parish govt funds and the city of Baton Rouge funds.

The DA and 19th JDC are parish-wide and this is a very dumb thread.

Sounds like they got the number down somehow.

St. George followed Baker, Zachary & Central in not including funding for constitutional offices. So they do not fund the parish prison, DA or the coroner.

These cities; not BR should fund psridh wide services.
Parish taxes should.
Conversely parish taxes should not fund city services.
We need to get back to going that.

Why don't we just post the facts of what actually funds the DA office.
You see that City of Baton Rouge $8,850,986? That's the City-Parish general fund.
You can go here and see the breakdown of all the revenue and expenditures of EBR
LINK
Sales taxes make up almost 2/3's of the general fund revenue, while property taxes are around 1/4th.

The State of Louisiana kicks in a base salary for the DA, all ADAs, and operating expenses. They are not supported solely by the Pariah. The real issue is that this base amount is the same across all parishes. You’ve got part time ADAs in smaller Parishes making the same as full time ones like in EBR. The State should kick in more relative to population size.

Well Duh . And what parish is St. George in?

They don’t need extra money to dismiss everything

They still pay taxes and other govt fees that are included in the General fund revenue.
They also aren’t running a deficit covered by the parish general fund like the city of Baton Rouge has been doing.
