Why are boomers' algorithms (and brains) so wired towards depressing news?

It seems like all they want to do is send you articles about who got murdered, Facebook posts about who died in a car accident, all their news is tailored to show them the most depressing shite imaginable. I don't need a daily text saying "Ms. Jones died of Alzheimer's last week.....they found her dog starved too.....sad," thanks

It is very bizarre and does seem to be a phenomenon for people born between 1960 and 1990. Many folks older than about 65 don’t really know how to use social media to be obsessed with this stuff and I find most people around 30 or younger do everything they can to avoid it. But the people aged 40-65 are fear porn fanatics

Grateful that I live in a community that has a vibrant senior center that encourages them to stay engaged in social activities.
The bleakest people I encounter that are 65 and up are self-isolating and stuck in that negative feedback loop.

These are the people who gave us MAGA... probably a function of knowing their time and money are short and they won't make the impact on the world they wanted to

Who will you guys blame, obsess over, and use as your boogey man for all the things that bother you once the Boomers pass on?

probably just do what Boomers do and blame the younger generations

Obama? He is a boomer.

Because that’s what the news media pushes. May be a chicken/egg situation.

Still mad PAW PAW stole your bitch?

Most of these assassins are young folks. They are getting bad algorithms too.
Routh is a boomer but like on the edge of being boomer and gen x.
He’s closer in age to gen xers than my boomer parents.

The fact that you don't realize that this has been going on since mass media was invented tells me a lot about your intelligence and perspective.
So the algorithm signed you up for texts?

Whoever is in charge and completely fricks everything up I reckon. As of today, Boomers have that distinction

I've never had a FB account, but this is definitely the last 10 years of the poli board.

People look for intrigue and excitement, especially when they're not directly impacted. It's human nature. Probably correlates with general life comfort. The more comfortable you are, the more likely you are to take some interest in such things. People with real problems worry about their own problems.
It's why women love stories about women being murdered. That should be terrifying, but they drink it up. Meanwhile, if it's unrelatable, they tune out. I imagine the Datelines where some higher risk black girl goes missing are the lowest rated ones.
It's definitely not limited to boomers.
