So many Nay Sayers, doubters, about O line being Achilles heel for this offense. Not being able to play as a unit. BK said he was confident the O line could perform well. He was correct. The O line did the job against a very talented Clemson defense. Kudos to the O line for getting the job done. Have to admit I was worried about false starts, missed assignments, and QB sacks, hurries and interception for lack of protection, Thankfully I was wrong. Guess going up against a very stellar defense in practice helped the iron sharpening iron.

CBK's strength has always been getting a good OL. It's paying off this year for sure so far

We'll see. They had a solid effort Saturday as a unit and got the job done. That said, they didnt grade well individually, the depth is still a huge issue(the gasp was audible when Adams went down and Mubenga came in) and honestly I wasn't very impressed with Woods, Parker and company along that Clemson DL. That other team is South Carolina has the real studs. Good game but they're going to have to continue to prove it.

The OL and TEs are the 2 positions that I wouldn't be worried about with a BK coached team. That's not to say they'll always be perfect, but he's been putting guys in the league at those 2 positions for almost as long as he's been coaching.

While I agree, that SC has some great talent on the DL, I don’t think we watched the same game. That D for Clemson was flying around and had some legit dudes on that front 7. The holes on their defense looked to be in the back 4 once you avoid Terrell

Dude the entire game plan was to hide the offensive line. We’ve never thrown that many screens and short passes in a game before. Durham was stuffed in the backfield on a number of runs. And Nuss had to escape the pocket in about 50% of the deep drop backs. The OL did not dominate by any means. Did they play well? Sure; especially the 3 guys we were confident in. But I watched Chester get embarrassed when he came in at LT, just as predicted. I also watched Mubenga get beat badly. Let’s not overreact to one game.

THIS x 1,000

Any football mind worth a crap understands this is where teams are made.
CBK has emphasized this at every stop he's made.

They largely mitigated the OL in pass blocking because we got rid of the ball so quickly.

When you look at the grades, overall it didnt paint a very pretty picture outside of Moore. In pass blocking, the average time Nuss threw the ball was closer to 2 than 3 seconds (2.09 to be exact) which Kelly specifically said after the game was by design to not have to rely on the OL as much to hold up.

In the end, the grades on the Olinemen went like this:

Moore - 73.9 overall; 67.8 run block; 85.8 pass block
Adams - 63.7 overall; 60.4 run block; 66.4 pass block
Thompson - 59.5 overall; 53.1 run block; 84.0 pass block
Mubenga - 53.9 overall; 46.0 run block; 81.0 pass block
Davis - 51.5 overall; 48.1 run block; 58.6 pass block

Echols (12 snaps - LG) - 56.1 overall; 57.9 run block; 42.6 pass block
Chester (4 snaps - LT) - 57.3 overall; 59.8 run block, 53.1 pass block

I think the grade on Chester is way too generous. Go back and watch him in when he comes in for Adams at LT - also why the hell is he the backup LT? That is scary as hell to think about. Chester got absolutely roasted on 3/4 plays (he allowed a hit and pressure on 3/4 pass block snaps), the only one he didnt was a quick pass play where it doesnt matter how the OL blocks on those really.

Mubenga did surprisingly well pass blocking but still struggles to figure out how to run block it seems. If we're being honest Weston Davis had a rough game, and see why they were thinking Curne might grab that starting spot ultimately. Overall the run blocking wasnt great, but we did a great job getting around this with so many outside runs and cut backs by ur backs as well. I still dont know we'll be able to run the ball between the tackles effectively this year, but if we get creative like we did with the run game, it can be good enough as a complement to the pass game.

In the end, this was probably the best DLine we'll play all season, so taking that into account, hopefully its just uphill from here and we see some overall good performances. I dont think we're settled on a LG yet and Weston Davis has to play better as well.

They did ok. But a lot of smoke & mirrors. Tons of quick passes, only a few long drop backs. Most of the rushing yards came after contact.

Not sure it’s worth celebrating with a thread like this

This is the truth.

Still, that was a step forward.

But, until we can give enough time to make plays downfield this offense won’t hit its potential.
