The odds of developing Parkinson’s disease increased 126% for people living within 1 mile of a golf course, compared to living more than 6 miles away. The heightened risk persisted within 3 miles of golf courses, but decreased beyond that.

The risk nearly doubled for people with shared water service with a golf course, compared to those without a shared service.

The greatest risk was for people living in areas with what’s called “karst topography,” which is “a region with limestone bedrock that slowly dissolves over time, creating underground voids that allow water from the surface to move more rapidly through it,” Krzyzanowski said. “This means that pesticides applied to grass or crops can more readily move into the groundwater supply after a rain.”

It’s even higher if you live in farm land areas which use heavy fertilizer etc. They infiltrate the water supply, same in tannery towns in northern states always had high cancer rates with the chemicals released into ground etc then the water supply.
Tons of people in farming regions get PD just don’t recognize or get it diagnosed until it’s advance past “little tremors”….

What’s the average age of people who live within one mile of a golf course as opposed to 6 miles?

I might need to look into advanced water filtration systems as more comes out on the risks of even treated city water.

I just received this notice from my subdivision:

quote:

...is pleased to report that we just received an “A” grade on our recent Water We Drink Report from Louisiana Department of Health (LDH) which sets the standards for us to follow as the regulatory agency in charge of potable water.

I think the water wells in our subdivision are deep enough to avoid pesticide runoff from the golf course. Now it has me interested in our water well depth, just to confirm.

Guess my parents are fricked... they've lived right on the Memphis National course for the past 20 years.

Crazy to think that chemicals that kill living plants or bugs would possibly also have a negative effect on a living human.

Exactly my thought as well. Are we talking causation or correlation here?

Does golf increase the odds of tourette syndrome? Seems like I've developed tourette's the more I play.
