I am traveling to Barcelona for work next month and will have 2 days of free time before the conference starts. What are some must dos for my time there?

Go inside the Sagrada familia. Compare it to the “old” cathedral.

Eat amazing food.

Stroll through the gothic, eixample, and born neighborhoods.

Walk down to the beach.

Miro museum and Picasso museum (but his hits are elsewhere).

Another vote for Sagrada Familia. Also, Park Guell is an amazing site and you could spend an entire day there LINK /
If you are into Banksy, there's a museum of his work there that is really well done and you can walk through it in half a day. LINK /
We also have visited and enjoyed the Catalonia National Museum in Barcelona:LINK

Don’t pay to go to the top of the towers, the wait is long, even with tickets and it isn’t worth the wait.

One of the great food markets in Europe is located on La Rambla. There is lots of small plates and street food to eat along with all types of fresh food that you can have cooked or just walk and see the stalls

It's going to be HOT.
Try to tour Barca's stadium if you have time.
There is a chocolate school/museum not far from the beach a couple of blocks from Sagrada Familia, worth a stop if you're there.
Hit an avenue near the beach and eat some tapas, drink a few beers and just watch everyone walk to the beach and not do any work.

See all the Guadi sites -

Sagrada Familia
Park Guell
Downtown mansions such as Casa Mila and Casa Battlo among others.

Walk the streets of El Born and the Gothic Quarter.

Picasso Museum.

Beach if the weather is warm.

Lots of great restaurants.

having been to a few cities in europe, not specifically barcelona, we always find a walking food/drink tour. These usually have awsoime local guides always feel like an under appreciated way to see and get to experience life as a local. Usually they go to non touristy spots and get to try some incredible food and drink.

Sagrada Familia. Also, Park Guell

Absolutely but don't sleep on the Apartments Gaudi designed: Casa Batlló, Casa Milà, and Casa Vicens. I would rank Sagrada Familia 1st, then the Apts and then Parc Guell. If you only have time for 1 apt then Casa Batlo is the one I would choose but they are all within walking distance of each other....or biking, Barcelona is a big biking town.

Gothic quarter is nice but full of tourists and the merchants that cater to tourists.....kind of like the French Quarter. Its nice to visit but if you don't get out to Uptown, Midcity, bywater, etc then you're missing a lot of good stuff. A more local experience is at the pedestrian street Carrer de Blais that is at the foot of Montjuic where the Miro Museum is. Koska Taverna, Quimet Quimet and La Chana are small tapas places that are laid back, friendly and very good. A bit more upscale is la Plattileria.
Barcelona also has a good craft beer scene with Garage Beer being my favorite place.

This guy has some great local tapas vids for many spanish cities. We used his vids as a guide when we were in Madrid and San Sebastian and the places he recommended were fantastic.

I second a trip out to Montserrat.

I would also add a walk to the Olympic Stadium. They've let it go. When I was there, you could just wander inside and explore. There were cats everywhere.

Don’t sleep on Girona either. Just got back and we did a day trip to Girona instead of Monserrat bc the monestary was going be close that day for an anniversary celebration so we did Girona instead. Very cool little town and numerous locations where GoT scenes were filmed if you’re into that.

Here are my notes from a recent trip. I feel like I missed out on Montserrat and the Gaudi appartments.

Day 1 - Landed late. Stayed here: https://www.airbnb.com/l/OJ2iV5t4. Happy to provide feedback to anyone who is interested. Loved the balcony including view of Sagrada Familia.

Did a little walking around there including Parc de la Ciutadella, Passeig de Lluís Companys, and El Born. Tapas for dinner at some bar.

Day 2 - Walked around the Gothic Quarter and La Rambla. Lunch at Mercat de la Boqueria.

4:00 tour at the Picasso Museum. Underwhelming to be honest. Then the Banksy musuem, which was a solid introduction to his work.

8:00 orchestra concert at Palau de la Música Catalana. Great program and performance. Highly recommend. LINK to concert

Day 3 - Tour at Sagrada Familia. Heard a great band playing some Billy Joe Shaver in the park across the street. Los Boozan Dukes.

Bar Cañete for dinner on the recommendation of this board and another friend. Favorite meal from two weeks in Eurpoe. https://barcanete.com/en/

Day 4 - Beach. Nova Icaria. Beautfiul day.

Day 5 - Tour of Parc Guelle in the morning. Lunch at Boqueria (again). The afternoon on Montjuïc. Visit to Museu Nacional d'Art de Catalunya (mainly to see the two El Greco's) and guided tour of Fundació Joan Miró. Drinks at Salts Montjuïc, a terrace bar located in the Montjuïc Municipal Swimming Pool (highly recommend). And dinner at Martinez where I had a very nice rabbit and chicken paella and a peas with clams starter that was outstanding.

Fun trip!

If you go to Sagrada, and you should, book a private tour. You will miss things if you do not.

As in missing what? Stand inside, stare at awesome beauty. You can overhear the explanation about how construction has never been finished and the permit is still "open" hundreds of years later from any rando tour group you walk by.
