I'm looking to go in the next hour. What should I look out for? I've heard great things. Kind of excited. Have my son with me

You getting stuff for like a beach condo or heading home?

It’s the best selection of fresh fish you’re gonna find anywhere along the northern Gulf Coast. Get whatever you want to fix. I’d look for red snapper me.

Bring your own ice chest if you’re trying to load up. They’ll supply ice for you. Obviously they have a massive selection of seafood but they also have other specialty foods. Breads, wine, gelato, sushi, seasonings, etc. Have fun and don’t look at the bill

I’ve never been personally, but everyone talks about the tuna dip. I would think that’s a “must buy”

If you like seafood, you'll be very happy! I wish they still shipped. We ordered from there a good bit, but they stopped some years ago and apparently decided not to go back. At first, the site said they were having issues with shippers and looking for a new partner. Now, there is nothing at all about shipping.

It's a great seafood market. Get some royal reds, some of their tuna dip, and anything else that looks fresh. As others have said, they will pack to travel. have fun.

It's some damn good tuna dip. OP should stand at the fish counter for a little while and watch those knife wielding Asian ninjas out back dragging fish off the boat and and eviscerating them on the spot. It's a sight to behold. As for what to get, get whatever fresh seafood you like. They'll have it all. My only slight knock on Joe Patties is that they let their shrimp sit in water as opposed to being on ice. Makes for a waterlogged shrimp imho. But what do I know. If it was later in the week I would definitely recommend getting some sushi to eat on the spot. Put I think they only do it Thurs, Fri, Sat....

It's a great place. Be sure to grab a number when you walk in. They have a big selection of seafood and other stuff. They also have a restaurant a short distance away that is pretty good too.

Like someone else said, take your cooler. You can also go by boat.

Best seafood market I’ve experienced.

I’d get some :
Grouper
Sea Bream if available
Hogfish
Tilefish
Tripletail
Almaco Jack

Have you ever had fresh swordfish? Its great. One thing I look to buy there because its routinely a really good price like $16/ lb.

I personally wouldn't really walk in with anything in particular in mind. Buy what is either a great price or looks great. Prices can really vary by the market, last year I found stone crab for $15/ lb one week and the next I was back and planned to load up again and it went up to something like $25/ lb so I skipped it.

They will have 6-8 types of grouper probably, some of them are like "carribean grouper" I don't know how legit those are.

Royal reds if a good price are a great option, they are best steamed IMO because they are very very easy to overcook.

ETA: Depending on how you like your fish, Joe patti's will likely have something for $14-16/ lb that's less known like Cobia or triple tail that will be every bit as good as grouper that maybe $24-30/ lb.

I’m just the opposite. I’d much prefer gulf shrimp.

Excellent place! We always grab some mahi mahi and amberjack. We aren’t the biggest seafood people but I can honestly say you’ll feel like a kid in a candy store

I'm really happy I made the trip to go. Got some snapper cheeks, royal reds, mahi-mahi, an octopus for my son, bay scallops, and about 6 kinds of dip and still didn't spend 100 bucks. Service was excellent, Kayla was helpful and chipper.

Will definitely make it an orange beach main stay. Wish I would have gone on first day.

Thanks F&D board your suggestions were great.

There’s nothing close to it in Louisiana.

Joe Patti’s is the ultimate seafood market! It’s a must stop anytime I’m in the area. I always get the Royal Reds. They are delicious dipped in melted butter. The will steam them for you at your desired spice level. They are different from regular Louisiana shrimp. They are caught in very deep water and have a different texture. Almost like eating lobster. They are fantastic!
