Am I the only one who thinks this new City of SG is turning into a large cluster frick?

These new appointed leaders of SG are already proposing a new 2% Sales Tax for Dec 7th election? (LINK Is this a new 2% tax on top of the taxes we already pay? Or will it replace existing taxes? And how about reducing our property taxes? like removing this Council on Aging tax from our property tax bill we are forced to pay?
And why is Ryan Heck appointed on this new City of SG Council? Do people have a short-term memory as to how corrupt of a politician this guy was during his tenure on Metro Council and his cheap Bluebonnet Land Deal he got for his brother-in-law? He got the city of Baton Rouge to secretly auction prime property along Bluebonnet Blvd during the Thanksgiving and Christmas Holidays (when hardly anyone would notice the listing in the classifieds - like anyone reads that anyway) so a family relative was able to purchase million-dollar real estate for like $10K (pennies on the dollar).
(LINK
Previous Council Rep. David Boneno (who was a good rep in my opinion and got the Bluebonnet Blvd corridor passed in late 1990s) promised that land would never be sold, city owned property to remain green space and maintained by the city for future generations. Now the green space is poorly maintained, had a huge blighted real estate sign for years on the property at corner of Jefferson and Bluebonnet across from CVS-- don't think the new owner was able to rezone it (or mow grass) because the media caught wind of the cheap land deals, so I think the property is caught in like a zoning limbo situation.
What is wrong with the current UDC and Future BR Plan? which is way more advanced than City of Central - which is poorly written and looks like the rudimentary zoning plan BR had in early 1990s before Central broke away to form its own city.
The City of SG Leaders say we will keep the current Sheriff as our police force (which is good thing), but then why not also keep Planning and Zoning the way it is? Why the need to model our Planning and Zoning to City of Central?
Federation of Greater Baton Rouge Civic Association (FGBRCA) is ready to give HOA's unlimited power when it comes to Planning and Zoning - and this can become a problem, because they always oppose almost any effort by a property owner to rezone their property or build a new garage or modify their own property within reason. HOAs can be very strict and always outnumber a single property owner just trying to live their life and enjoy their property.
I doubt any new neighborhoods will now be allowed in the new City of SG. And that new garage or house addition you plan to build or add on to your property - forget it, they will make obtaining a building permit nearly impossible.
The FGBRA complicates every effort of a property owner to redevelop or build upon their own property. The new city is already talking about hiring a new assistant attorney to manage Planning and Zoning? Why hire an attorney? Why not hire an Urban Planner with a degree in Urban Design? Why an attorney? The reason of hiring an attorney is to file lawsuits against property owners.
Just a few concerns about this new city.

If people in SG believe we’re not about to have to pay more in taxes (property; sales), I got some oceanfront property in Arizona for sale you may be interested in.

You are seriously a dumb arse.

Too early. Come back in 5 years. Let’s get fully removed from one shite government before we deconstruct a future shite government.

So far I’m on board with everything they’ve done except Heck. It was a mistake putting him on the council and I’m curious about who thought that was a good idea.
Everything else - hey, trust the process.

I don’t know the fine details, but the 2% sales tax already exists & has been collected by the city-parish government from residents of the parish (including St. George) and used to fund public services. I’d imagine they’re voting to have this go to St. George rather than to the city-parish. That’s how it was explained in the article I read last week.

Looks to me to be an additional 2% tax on top of the tax we already pay?
Posted on 6/30/24 at 8:47 am to Capitalist
Wasn't StG totally cool with any taxes as long as it built them a solid public school system and anything else they felt their taxes should go to?

None of that sounds particularly concerning
Especially when compared to the benefits of the future which I assume will include an ISD apart from EBRPS. And better management of sales and prop tax going to law enforcement, city services and maintenance
Not to mention a government in city hall/council which isn't mostly inept corrupt and incompetent.

I read that Max Himmel (appointed to new City of SG Council) promised NO NEW TAXES for City of SG. I like this guy already. Just saying. He seems like my kind of guy to run a new city.

This is still Louisiana… lipstick on a pig and all that

Taxes, especially property taxes, has always been my biggest concern since the city annexed the Siegen Ln corridor. I'm hoping they don't go through the roof
