The masters is only as popular as it is due to the timing of it

If the masters was swapped with any other major and had to compete with other major sports it wouldn’t be near as popular and the other major would take its place. Change my mind.

If you are stupid enough to think that, I’m not sure anyone here could come up with something that would change your mind.

Well the greens would probably look like arse in the winter months.

You can't be serious.

We did have a fall Masters once and it was fine

Nothing better just because football and CBB is not on?
End of the NBA regular season, MLB, NHL, Champions League, one of the biggest UFC cards ever. Gtfo, The Masters isn't the only thing on right now.

Its a gorgeous course, but there are at least a few places I like watching the golf more. Pebble, Sawgrass, St Andrews for sure to me have better golf, and then a few others I don't feel as strongly about.

The timing is perfect, as basketball has just ended.

The biggest reason the Masters is as popular as it is is because it is shrouded in tradition. It's the only one of the 4 majors that is played at the same course each year. CBS's production sets the stage of an old southern tradition. The prize (green jacket) is unique among the major tournaments. And the course is as much a beautiful Arboretum as a golf course.
Contrary to your statement, the US Open and (British) Open are played at times when there is much less going on in the sports world (at least in the US). All you really have then is the dog days of a long MLB season.
For lack of a better description, the Masters with it's vibrant green and blooming flowers perfectly encapsulates "Spring"

This
I barely watch golf anymore, if at all but generally tune into the Masters (alright, maybe just Sunday if its close) and only watch the US Open if its at Pebble.
The Masters is Americana, like the Kentucky Derby or the Indy 500.

Yes. It’s a fascinating story of marketing and successful event promotion.
Wimbledon is the most popular because it is oldest, but the masters has become the most popular by promotion.

It's by default going to be one of the four most popular golf tournaments just by being a major, and top 3 because the PGA Championship traditionally is considered the weakest of the four. It being widely viewed as one of, if not the most beautiful course in the world, sets it apart from other tournaments as well.
Prestige and combination of beauty and difficulty of the course are much more of a driver in popularity than promotion. The Masters/CBS could not run a single add this year and they'd get the same amount of viewers.

The US Open almost always falls during the NBA Finals and Stanley Cup

No point in even trying to change your mind. If you don't get why it's different, then you never will.

End of the NBA regular season
Aren't the NBA playoffs just a continuation of the regular season with maybe two fewer teams?

The actual reason for The Masters being so big is Bobby Jones got a bunch of his sports writer buddies to stop in Augusta and cover it on the way back from spring training. That put it in the public consciousness and the tradition developed with time.
